Scientific Name

Corydoras sp. (C121)

Common Name(s)

C121

Pronunciation

Kory DOOR ass

Etymology

Cory = helmet, doras = skin. In this case it was incorrectly used to mean armour (cuirasse) instead of skin in allusion to the dual rows of plates that run along the flanks of this genus.

Jump to next section Species Information

Size

60mm (2.4") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.

Identification

Corydoras are identified by their twin rows of armour plates along the flanks and by having fewer than 10 dorsal fin rays. They are most commonly confused with the other genera in the sub-family, namely Brochis, Scleromystax and Aspidoras.

This species is close to C. adolfoi and C. burgessi but can be visually distinguished easily by the darkened gill cover. Generally the dorsal fin also contains more black pigment.

Sexing

Females are a bit larger and fuller bodied. This is especially evident when view from above.
