Lophiobagrus: The name comes from the broad, depressed anterior region of the fish, which reminded Poll of the angler fish (Lophius piscatorius).
Mucus is poisonous to other fishes.

Feed on chironomid larvae, beetle larvae and small crustaceans with occasional ingestion of vegetable material.
Likes to hide amongst rocks during the day, active nocturnally.
Unreported. Care of the eggs and young is probably done by mouthbrooding solitary males.
