Etymology Greek, hemi = half + Greek, psilos = hairless + Greek, ichtys = fish.

Size 98mm (3.9") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Absence of adipose fin; cleithral width 27.3-31.7% SL; presence of normally developed dermal plates on the dorsal surface of body; nuptial males with few and delicate hypertrophied odontodes on the lateral margin of head, usually hidden by extensive soft fleshy lobes.
