| Identification | The majority of species are small and compact, have a defense mechanism of three ossified spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins,being able to lock them into place. Known only from a single specimen. Deep notched caudal fin with pointed lobes. Base color is yellowish with large dark spots that interconnect to create a marbled pattern. |
| General Remarks | An unspotted individual from the Lafume River was identified as Zaireichthys flavomaculatus by Poll(1967)but is clearly a different species (most likely undescribed). |
