Type Locality Lake Mai-Ndombe (formerly Lake Albert) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Pronunciation cry sick thiss
Etymology Chrysichthys: From the Greek chrysos, meaning golden and ichthys, meaning fish; in reference to the golden-yellow color (of the type species, C. auratus).

Sexing Sexually mature males display expanded cheek muscles, mouths and toothplates and rectal skinfolds.
