| Feeding | In the wild the main diet in the summer and autumn is anchovy, in the winter predominately polychaetes. Crustaceans and molluscs are also eaten. |
| Breeding | Unreported in the aquarium. In the wild spawning takes place in the summer, with fish reaching sexual maturity at around 175mm. The fish spawn in areas with muddy bottoms producing around 27 eggs. The males take the eggs from the substrate for oral incubation and migrate to shallower waters, whilst the females return to the typical distribution zones. |
