Type Locality Brazil, Rondonia, Porto Velho, Lago Madalena, Rio Jaciparana, Rio Madeira, 9°17'00''S, 64°23'57''W.
Etymology From the Greek leios meaning smooth, bald, and physa meaning bladder, in allusion to the absence of a secondary bladder.

Size 157mm (6.2") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification Scorpiodoras liophysus can be distinguished from S. calderonensis and S. heckelii by having a simple, cordiform, gas bladder (vs. gas bladder having a secondary bladder) and midlateral scute depth 61–72% of body depth (vs. 33–59%). Scorpiodoras liophysus can also be differentiated from S. heckelii by having relatively small eye, diameter 58–77% of interorbital width (vs. relatively large eye, diameter 91–129% of interorbital width).
