| Identification | No other pimelodid genus possesses a dark horizontal stripe stretching entire length of head and body. S. cuspicaudus can be distinguished from other species of Sorubim by its deeply forked and elongate caudal fin. Its lobes are both straight and pointed whilst other Sorubim have a rounded bottom lobe. |
