Breeding |
Behaviour | Adding oak leaves to the tank trigged spawning. The male were immediately interested and started to build a bubble neset under the floating leaves. Female frequently investigated the work. Eggs were layed on the leafes and covered with bubbles. The male were guarding the eggs and repairing the nest. After 3-4 days you could see the fry inside the eggs. When i saw that the fry was about to leave the eggs i removed the leaves with eggs to another tank. |
Eggs | There were 400 eggs laid which were 0.0mm in diameter. |
Segregation | The oak leaves with eggs were transferred to another small tank when hatching. Easy to see as the fry used some time in order to get out. The leaves were but in a 20 l tank with water from the spawning tank. Circulation by using airstone. The airflow was put directly below the leaves in order to accomodate enough circulation. No fungal treatment. All eggs hatched same day. The fry were fed with living artemia the first 8 weeks, in the small tank with daily water changes from the spawning tank. About 50 youngsters grew up and was sold to the local shop. |
