Etymology	Ictalurus: From the Greek ichthys, meaning fish, and ailouros, meaning cat; literally "fish cat" (=catfish). The specific epithet lupus means wolf. But, it is unclear why this name was chosen as this species does not have any outward lupine qualities - perhaps it is in reference to its feeding habits or other pack like behaviour.

Size	450mm (17.7") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	Greatly resembles a small channel catfish, however, body lacks spots and the caudal fin is not deeply forked, the base of the anal fin is longer than the head length.
General Remarks	Fishbase lists 480 mm TL.

Distribution	North America: USA to Rio Grande drainage including Pecos River system in southeast New Mexico and Devils River in southern Texas; also in northeastern Mexico.
