Species Information | |
| Size | 113mm (4.4") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp. |
| Identification | According to Rodriguez et al (2008), Ixinandria is most similar to Rineloricaria and can be distinguished from most genera by the total lack of abdominal plates, including the preanal plate. Hartiella and a few species of Harttia also have the abdomen completely devoid of plates, and can be distinguished from Ixinandria by having 12 branched caudal-fin rays (vs. 10 in Ixinandria) and by the absence of postorbital notch, which is present in Ixinandria. |
| Sexing | Rodriguez et al noted that "Males with head wide and flattened; long hypertrophied odontodes on sides of head and on upper side of branched pectoral-fin rays; short odontodes on remaining of dorsal surface of body, especially on predorsal region; unbranched pectoral-fin ray hypertrophied." |
| General Remarks | In their 2008 review of the genus, Rodriguez et al determined that the populations I. montebelloi and I. steinbachi were not significantly distinct and did not deserve separate species recognition. As such, they placed I. montebelloi in synonymy of I. steinbachi. |
