Type Locality	Temporary pools on riversides of Rio Tapajós, between Vila Nova and Urua, Pará, Brazil.
Pronunciation	hi POSS tow muss - SONN ee ae
Etymology	Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth.
Species Information
Size	146mm or 5.7" SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp.
Identification	Has blue eyes. Would be one of those species previously placed in Cochliodon and now included in the larger genus, Hypostomus as a member of the Hypostomus Cochliodon group. All these species have higher backs than other conspecifics and spoon shaped teeth (like Panaque).
