Re: Jerry Mirandas Synodontis multipunctatus spawning video
That would be nice, Jools. Originally the video sequence was available from: http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworl ... _synos.htm

Jerry Mirandas Synodontis multipunctatus spawning video
Back in 2003 Jerry Miranda uploaded a video sequence, where one can see a Synodontis, that he called S. multipunctatus, which was spawning without any mouthbrooding cichlid. Is this video still available somewhere?

He guys, S. frontosus is a valid species, but your fish isn't S. frontosus . Have you seen what's the distribution area of S. frontosus ? The upper Nil, Lakes Albert, Rudolf, Edward, Kyoga, the Chad bassin and Uebi Shebeli. Do we get fish form there? No, we don't! So forget about that. Your species ...

All right, this is a good argument. Most (but not all) big growing Synodontis do grow continuously and especially the first year(s). Also the big eyes of your specimen don't match to good. But if you look at the only photograph in the link to the cat-eLog, you might notice, that the specimen there i...

Thanks for the PM Dave! I haven't seen such a species alive before, and acc. to Poll, none of the fish of which a drawing is in that book fits perfectly. From its general appearance I would say its surely a West African species. Only S. budgetti has some similarities. I know, this species has an ext...

Slowly I read me through some articles of that issue of Neotr. Ichthyol. Concerning Hemiancistrus guahiborum I had to see that the authors lumped L106 and L122 together. The type from Rio Ventuari is L106, but the color photograph of a non-type shows a L122. Also L122 occurs more downstream in the O...

There is one more thing to think about, especially the specimen in the displayed pictures look very much alike Synodontis velifer . It is assumed that this species is one of the parts used for the hybrids, but what if they are not hybrids and true S. velifer this time. As much as I know was the real...

I think there is legitimate doubt, whether the species Hemiancistrus arenarius, Chaetostomus bachi, Peckoltichthys filicaudatus and Hemiancistrus ucayalensis , here in the combinations, as they have been described originally, later correctly were re-identified. While only H. arenarius and H. ucayale...

To my knowledge was Peckoltichthys established by Miranda Ribeiro in 1917 with Peckoltichthys filicaudatus as a replacement name for Peckoltia , which the same author established in 1912 for Chaetostoma vittatus . The reason for this was, that he found out that Peckoltia was in use before already fo...

There are several differences. Because of my possiblities to take every few weeks pictures at one of the largest wholesalers in Europe, the all-L-number book can show a huge variety of phenotypes of many species. For some species we could therefore spend several pages to show this variety. At least ...

Hi Jools, Walter, the reason why it follows in taxonomy Isbrücker et al. and not Armbruster has nothing to do with the fact that it is a German book. The fact is that Isbrücker et al. gave reasons based on characters for their taxonomical splitting while Armbruster so far missed it to do the same ...

Mergus "Wels Atlas Vol.2" (=Catfish Atlas)
Today I received a copy of Vol. 2 of the Mergus Catfish Atlas. It has 1.359 pages and covers only Loricariidae catfish of the subfamilies Ancistrinae, Hypostominae, Lithogeneinae and Neoplecostominae. L-Numbers are covered up to L387 and LDA86. Many L-Numbers are there with their scientific name, if...

Unfortunately I can't say what your fish is, but I can say its not S. dorsomaculatus , because first place, from the area where they live no fish exports are comming so it would be more than a surprise if they would show up, and second, there are quite some differences in pattern and morphology. The...

Servus Oliver, a little bit a late replay, but still I hope it helps. I think your fish are S. robbianus .
