Troutangler, There are so many different cories out there...I know what you are doing, because I did it too. We had 7 different kinds of cories in our tank. The problem was that they were not "similar" enough to shoal together. My reccomendation (and that's all it is...it's your Fishroom!)...

All, It's neat to see the new oto. It looks to me that the big difference is the "Batman" like symbol on its tail fin. Is there any others for us laymen? I found out about it tonight at the Greater Detroit Aquarium Society meeting - Dr. Langhammer brought it up. Let's find some more! Scott

:( I have some sad news. None of the fry survived. It appeared that the ones' we took out like we do with our cories and aspidoras died fairly quickly. I believe there was not enough "food" or algae for them to eat. I'm not sure what killed the ones that were with the parents unless the pa...

I would disagree about the dianema longibarbis. I had one by itself for a couple of years and he was very shy. When I added some more in the past few months the longibarbis were very very happy! I think you might want to look at Synos. S. Eupterus is a very fine specimin that appears to grow in your...

I thoughtthat since green water is essentially algae, and that otos are algae eaters it seemed to make sense for the young. I think the temperature up here in MI caused the end of the Green Water. The temperature in the basement floor got cold and the greenwater crashed. Thanks for your help and yes...

Does the mop method work for all cories then? Does it "encourage" them? Sorry if I'm asking alot of questions. It made sense to me about the Hastatus (Mine are in the middle level in a tank by themselves), but Corybreed's and Coryman's posts have me wondering about if it would be better wi...

I don't know for sure with respect to hastatus since they are "mid-level swimmers" but most cories deposit the eggs on the walls or on plants in the aquarium. Please note that most cories do not go up to the top long enough to use a mop like the killifish and rainbows do. We normally take ...

i read somewhere that the "alpha male" will releaase a hormone that will keep the less dominate males from increasing in size. I don't recall where, but I do believe I have this issues with the albinos.

The easiest of all cories to breed is the Corydoras pygmaeus and the Corydoras habrosis. I'm still awaiting the Corydoras hastatus to mature..their close, but not yet.

Aspidoras are not too hard to breed either...

With all due respect, I disagree strongly with Ian. The size of the tank is a major issue here. I keep clown loaches and angel botia in different tanks, but if you keep the loaches and the cories in "happy group sizes" there are no issues. By the sizes of the groups, I am saying 4 loaches ...

Katy, I'm curious if you have entertained the idea of smaller loaches? Please note that this is a suggestion. This could buy you some more "space" in your tank. I was thinking of the angel botia (botia kubotai) which grows to about 4" long. Is this planned to be a planted tank? Are yo...

With the Oscars in the tank, I would seriously think of removing the cory cats. If you like the family the cories are in, check out the hoplo cats or the porthole cats. But with the oscars I may have second thoughts.

I'd also keep in mind that you do not want a tall tank forthese guys. The Pygmaues and Habrosis will not be very happy trying to get to the top of a 40-gallon tall tank. It stresses them out and that's not good!
