Re: Wallago

There is one labeled with this same name in my LFS. It's about 4", and I'm guessing it was part of the same export as the one you acquired. Did your supplier offer any clues as to collection/export location?

Re: Synodontis clarias

I have just two currently - I sold one as they fought continuously, and 3 is a horrible # to keep of most fish - and they are just NOW after several years finally coming out to feed in the light. They eat anything (including several types of algae!), but tend to be rather shy and do not "compet...

Great. So they allow them, as long as they allow them. :-O

I would worry that even if you show them documentation that the TSA allows live fish, you could still get a stubborn agent that denies their processing.

Re: Big filter need 2000l

For my 340 gallon tank (what is that? 1300 liters?) I had to build an external filter, as the costs noted here stymied my efforts to use off-the-shelf hardware. Instead of constructing an under tank sump, I built an above tank wet/dry (trickle) filter. The cost was minimal, my ability to pick-and-ch...

Re: fluval FX5 technical question.

Not all water pumps are designed to be run at full capacity, others require it. It might be a better choice to "tee" the water line and bleed off the water pressure you do not want. I would worry putting back pressure (by restricting flow) on the pump would cause it to overheat, as the pum...

I was opening a pack of tighty-whiteys back in the day and a small slip of paper was in the package assuring quality: "Inspected by andregurov". My roommate bought a pack that was inspected by "euda nastevski". We took the names for our (then brand-new) internet/e-mail accounts. ...

I missed your (quite clear) diagnosis of septicemia the first time around, sorry. I don't know if it is a good idea to change treatments after just a few days, particularly in a problem as stubborn and vexing as a possible internal infection (where the damage may have already been done, and medicati...

Re: Help! pink L134s dying

Septicemia? The bloating is concerning; usually intraspecific aggression is manifested through torn fins, so I would hazard it has an internal bacterial infection. The bloating could be hinting at an osmotic issue, symptomatic of kidney issues ... Or: you could be looking at an ammonia/nitrite issue...

A LFS here has 3 specimens, 2 of which arrived fat and 1 of which arrived extremely skinny. They are kept in a tank with moderate air-driven current at around 74 degrees Fahrenheit. They seem pretty inactive but do feed on frozen bloodworms. And are $75 a pop!

Electroshock.

Just kidding. b-) Your easiest approach is to catch them at night when they are unawares. You'll probably be able to catch them all in just a few wet minutes.

Re: Synodontis Longirostris WC Adults, Can it really be?

I'm guessing these fish were imported into North America by Below Water, and then shipped into the US. P. kieneri is easily available in the US, P. petiti not so much (although I've heard they are from Old World Exotics, clearing out adult paretroplines from their ponds). Below Water's blog - http:/...

Re: Hurricane Irene's Aftermath

Sorry, I forget not everyone HAS to evacuate for a hurricane! b-) One big issue to remember (for us, at least) is that if power is lost and filters aren't cleaned right before, it is possible that power comes back on and spews the nasty murk into the tank, thus killing the inhabitants, ironically, o...

You already seem to know exactly where you went wrong, but sometimes we just get lax in the face of an emergency. Unluckily for me, hurricane/aquarium drills are pretty commonplace. Don't quit the hobby yet, just be cautious about your feeding and water-change regimen (and your filter cleaning too!)...

I went with the Farlowella, so the tank now has 6 3" Farlowella sps. swimming about. It would appear in early glances that there are at least two different species represented, so now I go about figuring out what they are. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. One of my 29g has some Pseudepiplathys annulatus and Atya gabonensis that I thought about moving into the hex but decided against, so a tank of S. nigriventris and some killies sounds pretty good. 45 gallon problem aquarium

An empty tank is both a blessing and a curse: it allows you the freedom to impulse buy, but also taunts you when not stocked. My 45 gallon hexagonal tank (roughly 21" x 21" x 30" tall) presents such a scenario for me. Hexes are notorious for being showy yet limiting ... and this one i...

The snakeheads sound very nice. It's been years for us to find 'em locally.
