Re: Possible Panaque Mature Pair

Are those fish in the photos above the pair you intend to breed? I ask because they're two different species. The first photo is looks like a Panaque cf. armbrusteri from the Araguaia-Tocantins basin (Brazil) and the second looks like a Panaque cf. nigrolineatus 'L330' from the Orinoco basin (Venezu...

Re: Can this pleco be obtained in uk

Is it specifically that Baryancistrus L003 you're looking for, or any pleco that's turned white? The turning white (well, tends to be more yellowish) phenomenon occurs in a quite a few species; one of my Panaque nigrolineatus did so a few years back. Here's an article about the colour change, from L...

Re: What catfish are you getting next?

Eric, from memory (so I could be talking out of my arse), L397 weren't prevalent in the UK until a few years ago. To my knowledge, the now closed, Rare Aquatics obtained around 100 of the first fish. They were selling at £150 each. Since then I've seen a few more shipments, combined with 'home' bree...

Re: Description of the dermal armor plates of Pterygoplichthys pardalis

I agree with you both that the 'Fig 1' picture is definitely not Pterygoplichthys pardalis , and is actually from the 1999 redescription of Pseudorinelepis genibarbis by Armbruster and Hardman. Maybe someone got Pterygoplichthys and Pseudorinelepis confused? Although, I do think that the dead/preser...

Re: What is a thunder line royal pleco?

I'd agree with what Jools has already said. If the common name includes 'thunder' then it usually means P. armbrusteri from the rio Tapajos, but 'gold' or 'goldline' is often incorporated as well, which is troublesome because it's also used for the rio Araguaia populations. L027a = Panaque cf_armbru...

Could you shed some light on the origin and identity of the Panaque that you used?

Awesome, as usual, Christophe :d I just think it's so cool you've raised 7 of these guys from babies to the monsters they are now. Anyway, enough brown nosing for now ;) I know that 900 litres is a huge tank, but I think it'll get small very fast. Aside from the giving them enough refuges, try to en...

What is it about P. cf. armbrusteri that would make these results more interesting to you? More generally speaking, in your opinion (or anyone else could answer this), how would your interpretation of the results be influenced by knowing specifically which panaque was used by these authors? I just ...

I wonder which species they really investigated. This is what I wondered in the 2013 paper as well. This is the quote from the materials section - " P. nigrolineatus were imported from Rio Xingu, Peru, through commercial wholesale distributors (AquaScape Online, Belleville, NJ, USA)." Fro...

Those who use Tropical Spirulina Granulat

Just an FYI for those that use Tropical Spirulina Granulat, they've changed the recipe/formula to an 'improved' lighter weight granule. They now float a lot more, whereas the previous formula were good sinkers, so are pretty much unusable (at least for me). I use the 1 litre tubs which used to weigh...

Re: Teeth degradation in Panaque nigrolineatus

Update - Almost 2 years later there is not much (if any change) in the teeth. I haven't changed anything, so no softer wood, because I haven't been the primary caretaker and wanted maintenance to be as easy as possible. The fish (Maximus) is still healthy otherwise with no other apparent issues.

Well, the good news is that any camera you considered getting back in 2013 will be cheaper now.
