Re: Gravel or sand?

Thanks for the info, I ended up putting sand in. Though I wasn't prepared with how to clean the tank as I ended up sucking sand up the syphon and not the actual poop, lol. I've youtubed ways to clean the tank and now I use a tube to syphon and skim over the sand rather than the large gravel cleaning...

Gravel or sand?

Hey guys, I picked up a 70g-ish tank setup (I'm guessing as it's a 48x18x24), the guy had it for sale claiming it was a 55g but when I arrived, I knew I was getting a phenomenol deal so I brought it home that day. It was pretty filthy and contained a 10" pleco, a 5" white goldfish and a 3&...

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

All is well again. He's bulking back up and the only thing that remains is a few of the bumps on his dorsal and pectoral fins. Still continuing the remainder of the treatment just in case.

Meds must be doing something right, Mr Shark has eaten a meal tonight :)

Lets hope this healing process continues strongly.

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

He's still hanging in, poor guy. His color is pale, the bumps haven't gotten any bigger and the fuzz is now gone but still not eating and his tail started some form of fin rot right when I started the meds, it seems to have stopped currently. Still performing salt dips every day too. The herbal meds...

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

Salt bath went well, I applied the meds too and will continue with this current routine everyday. I hope he can get on the route to recovery quickly, in the meantime I will continue to research what else I can do. The meds I picked up was Microbe-Lift Herbal Actives Artemiss. It says to to a 10 day ...

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

It's not mela or Pima, I was informed to stay away from those when I only had bettas as it is dangerous for them.
I'm guessing it would be fine for most bish buy I didn't even consider looking at those solutions as I just figured it would not go over well with scale less fish?

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

Thank you Viktor and Richard for your help! I've been on the hunt for a secondary tank on craigslist to set up but no luck yet, I missed out on a few nice big setups, I'll keep looking. Too small of a tank like Richard mentioned may not be a good idea. I came across a herbal sort of medication, I'm ...

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

Update: I've now seen a slight change from the white fuzz on the fins to what looks like the starting of fin rot? The bottom edge of his tail looked a bit frayed, the other fins don't and they had less white stuff on them. I took him back out of the tank and did the same thing as last night, shallow...

Re: Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick s

I thought he was just stunned from hitting the glass, the ID's have knocked themselves out before but none of them have floated upside down with gaping mouths then convulse. I went to a few LFS's that had knowledgeable staff, all of them said they've never had an ID survive that and only the one LFS...

Hifin paroon shark - heartattack 1wk ago, showing sick signs

I have a hi fin paroon catfish that is about 5" in length and is showing white on his fins. About a week ago, he hit the glass hard when my friend came up to the tank, they usually never panic but for some reason they did this time. Immediately he went belly up, floated to the top with his mout...

Re: Saltwater information for sea horses

Thank you for the information! I was looking at only having tank raised females and was trying to find info as to whether that was the best route but you just confirmed it! :d I know the pet store here tank raises them and has a few that they use in stable tanks, I believe it is illegal here as well...

Re: Saltwater information for sea horses

Maybe that would be a better setup? I just assumed that the nano cube would be easier to keep up with and would make up for errors seeing as everything is built in but from what your saying it is worse off? I'd actually like to start out with some easy saltwater fish to see if I can maintain a habit...

Re: Saltwater information for sea horses

Thanks! Gives me some more resources to look at, I've also read that they need frequent feedings due to the lack of a stomache which has kept me from setting it up years back, I didn't want to cause an unnecessary death due to time restrictions. I'll take a further look into their feeding as well to...

Re: Saltwater information for sea horses

Here is a link to the Nano tank I'd like to get, I thought there used to be a 29g tank but maybe that is now obsolete as I was looking at them last year, this one is a 24g tank - http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=10677

Saltwater information for sea horses

*Mods please move if I am in the wrong area* I've always wanted seahorses but have held back due to my lack of extra time and also my lack of knowledge on saltwater tanks. I love the nano cubes and would like a big one soon, I just like how they are already built with everything you need for saltwat...

Re: How big of an aquarium in a concrete apartment building?

It's a poured concrete floor from what I have been told by the building manager, I'm assuming I'll be ok but wanted to be sure. Good thinking about the new rules thing, I'll be careful when I chat with the manager, maybe ask her what the weight limit is per square ft and say I have alot of furniture...

How big of an aquarium in a concrete apartment building?

I'm hoping to put a 120g and stand in my concrete apartment, I've tried looking it up online and looks like I'll be clearing it with the building manager just in case there are rules against it but just wanted to see if anyone was knowledgeable and had some info as to placement and maybe any unfores...

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

The albino has never eaten very well on any type of food I give him, sometimes he'll eat the vegetarian flakes but it's off and on. Neither of the little guys have grown since I've had them, there was originally 3 when I picked them up but one died abrubtly about a week in. I was away for a few days...

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

Doesn't appear that they have, just the ID's currently. I came back from vacation yesterday and the last minnow has gone missing, my friend taking care of them for me couldn't tell who took him. Should of nabbed the last minnow and stuck him in with the tiny ID's before I left last week =(( My albin...

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

Yesterday morning I couldn't tell which one took it, sometimes it's hard to find all 3 minnows but it was definitely gone in the morning and none of the sharks looked like they were overly fat. Then last night, I discovered the 2nd one gone and one of the ID's had a bigger belly. The only other fish...

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

No worries, I'm not offended :)

I usually don't like offering live foods, it was something I felt I needed to resort to with these two.

Unfortunately (for the minnows) I discovered two missing in the tank today. I assume they have been taken alive.....

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

I've tried rosy red minnows, all three that I bought are swimming around happily and in no threat of being eaten any time soon, lol. The feeder fish from the store are rather large and with how small my guys are, I doubt they would touch them so that's why I tried the minnows, they were tiny enough ...

Re: Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

Thanks guys :) They have started eating finally, I can see their bellies getting fatter and today I watched them eat some flakes and pellets. I have a few different varieties now of flakes and pellets so they will have a pretty good varied diet, they just don't care for the frozen or live foods yet :/

Pangasius Sanitwongsei not eating

Hi, I'm new here and looking for info pertaining to the Pangasius Sanitwongsei, or from what the pet store and most info on the net dubs them - HiFin or HiFin Paroon Shark. Friend of mine originally bought them a few weeks ago and couldn't get them to eat, pet shop wouldn't take them back nor did th...
