Grey layer on Corydoras Sterbai

I'm on several forums and over the years (2013-now) I've read several threads about C.sterbai having a greyish layer / spots on their body. Some mild, some extreme. Does anyone know what is causing this and why it seems only to be on C.sterbai? Can't wrap my mind around it.

Thanks in advance.

Leucomelas? Information please.

My guess would be Corydoras Brevirostris.
To my knowledge Punctatus isn't seen in the trade for years (Living in a no-catching locality in Surinam).
Lots of "spotted" Corys are sols labeled Punctatus (latin for spotted) though.

How long to fast cory catfish

I agree with @corycory.
Feed my Corys every day and keep them in shoals if their own species. You'll be amazed about social behaviour in that case.

Ich recommendations

Not being offensive, but why did you fish of which you knew had Ich? To my knowledge Corys are sensitive to salt and some to high temps as well. I'd go the med-way and treat as mentioned in the manual (often half dosing). If there still aren't any spots I'd wait to be sure it has got Ich. In the mea...

Corydoras Julii (or trilineatus) help

The floating often is caused by new Corys (in stress) will take a bigger gulp of air than normally (secundary breathing-system). To my knowledge Trilineatus are found over a widespread aerea and will therefor often be different in shape, color, markjngs aso. The one in front of the tank seems to hav...

False L144 vs L144

Thanks again !! A pic of my Peppered Cory Nice cory. Does that cory have black or red eyes? Also, is that cory yellow or white bodied in real life? Lighting can make white fish look yellow. Speaking of body color, I know that my albino BN plecos can change body color depending on: 1) Diet - foods t...

Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what?

Andy, to my knowledge two albinos (recessive gen) never can have brown fry. That is incorrect. A red eyed white albino male and a red eyed white albino female may in fact produce 100% normal brown fry, if the two albinos are from different "clans", with each clan carrying an albino gene i...

Re: False L144 vs L144

Hi, well, I am not a biologist, so perhaps a geneticist can better explain (or perhaps even explain why my explanation is wrong). And after looking it up again, I realize that the english word is actually xanthism.. Those are different kinds of mutations: leucistic individuals do not have melanocyt...

Re: False L144 vs L144

Thanks Sandor. Only think it isn't the light that causes black or blue eyes. My 2 females do have blue eyes, but I've seen "normal" black eyes elsewhere. Thanks for explaining the "Rio Paraquay" - story. You're the first to me that uses the word Xanthoristic in english (I've a ye...

Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what?

most likely. But the parents of these fish were also both red eye albinos and threw brown fry as they got older. It remains to be seen whether the process will repeat in this generation. Aad- both parents were red eyed albinos. and they definitely threw brown fry as they were alone in a 10 gallon t...

Re: Ancistrus sp. Albino X Albino Equals what?

I had a pair of LF albino's that threw nothing but albino LF fry for a long time. Then one day they started to throw shortfin albino and then both shortfin and long fin brown fry. There is more to it than simple Mendelian genetics. Age or environment may also contribute to the pigmentation/lack of ...

Re: False L144 vs L144

Besides of that there seem to be two ore more strains of albinos. A "yellowish" one with red eyes and a more whitish / pink strain with red eyes. The first is often sold and mislabeled as L144

Re: False L144 vs L144

Doesn't have the false L144 black eyes instead of blue eyes for the real one ? The false L144, aka Ancistrus sp. (4), differes from the Albino variant with the lack of the red eye typically associated with albinism, as well as a lack of pattern coloration on the fins as well as the body that is pre...

Could it be a lack of protein is a possible cause. Noticed my Oto's aren't that great algae-eaters, but love protein.
