Small brown pleco

Apologies for the rubbish pictures. Does anyone know what this is? The pair were unwanted after a house clearance and have spawned in their Q tank - the male is on an egg bunch. Some kind of Ancistrus maybe?

Those tetras may well be the cause of the damage to the dorsal fins.

Re: Odd characin thread

Interesting. In what way were these delicate? The food? Or waterparameters? They ate well enough and the males even displayed to the females for a while. Over time however they suffered from some kind of mouth rot and would go opaque and die off one at a time. I think I had them for about 6 months ...

Re: Corydoras nanus color variant or a different species?

The elegans group can be difficult and it seems many species have a lot of variability. Also males are quite different from females. CW008 has a gold stripe like your fish. Also nanus is quite scarce and many more common species are sold as such.

It's a juvenile corydoras. Probably an aeneus or close relative.

Re: Breeding corydoras without substrate

In my experience it increased fry survival rates considerably when a very thin layer of sand was added to the bottom of the raising tank.

These are often sold as gold spot pleco, gold spot sailfin pleco or even marbled sailfin pleco. Don't think I've ever seen them sold under their scientific name.

Re: Trying to identify illness on Corys, white fungus-like?

I have seen this a few times with several species of corydoras. There are various ideas as to the cause, some of which have been posted here. It's also been said it may be a diet issue. In my experience a large (at least 50%) water change will see it off within a day or two. The fish recover well al...

Re: How to breed corydoras Metae

If I remember correctly metae like to hide their eggs around the tank. Try adding a big bunch of Java moss or Java fern. Or even a couple of spawning mops if you haven't already.

Were these fish quarantined at all? I also think this species requires a dedicated tank, set up specifically for it.
