Not the best photos to determine. But could be a female based on these shots. Did not notice significant odontal growth to think it is male.

Depends on how many L333s are coming in. Also depends on the filtration and furniture of the tank.

Re: Pleco hanging in the bubbles from the airstone

Hi! Is this tank a new set up? Was it "cycled" accordingly?
Tank could also use more wood or hiding places such as rocks, slates, and caves. A dark background would also help.
Good luck.

Not L202 IMO. They tend to have tiny spots in the head area. I agree this one could be an L49 or L15.

Cannot be mistaken for a Sabaji. Nevertheless, you got yourself something that's rarely exported in my opinion. Could be Peckoltia sp Rio Nanay perhaps?

Re: Definitive Id to stop everyone squabbling! lol

Looks like Peckoltia or Ancistomus to me. Which one specifically? Can't say for now. I'm assuming these are wild-caught. Do you know which river these came from? No. 1 looks female. No.2 definitely male. No.3 female perhaps. 4 and 5 potentially males. Give them time to fatten up or grow more pronoun...

Re: Need help with a new L239 (Blue Finned Panaque)

Try to observe if there will be significant changes in its behaviour such as eating and resting. Have seen this loss of colouration happen before in other Baryancistrus and it didn't end up well.

Re: sexing 2 134! is this a male with no hair?

Girth alone is not conclusive to determine sex with these. Stout ones can end up being males once they become mature and start growing their odontodes. Slender ones can end up being females once they mature, fatten up, and still be less adorned with odontodes.

Ideally, photos should be close up of each fish. The biggest one could be male, based on that pic. The rest are too small/young to clearly identify. All look skinny, however. Perhaps their big tankmate is keeping most of the food for himself/herself? Good luck.

Never heard of these guys being "racist". Term should never be used for these or any other animals.
Not uncommon for males to select mate/s and reject others. Its just simply preference.

Re: L002

Place them in a basin and take close up photos from the top. Less likely they will eat prepared food with the lights on. Drop food then turn all lights off. Go to sleep and let them be. If they don't finish off everything, that big guy on the left side of your tank will definitely help himself with ...

Surely these guys love digging. Wait till it grows over 7 inches! Providing cave/s can lessen the digging activity during daylight. But expect it to go on and dig again once it comes out of its cave after the lights are turned off. I use heavy pieces of wood and rocks as furniture because lighter pi...

Could you explain what this is based on? You have to take into account that the vary quite a bit in size. Not an expert, simply my opinion. Of course I did consider the difference in size! But size is not the only factor, if I may say. I also considered the difference in their pattern and colourati...

Pretty much the same pic as before. Catching it and placing it in a basin with little water produces better pics from above. Nevertheless, this is L201 not H. Contradens.

Hard to tell with that picture. L201s tend to have flatter heads and bodies compared to H. Contradens if that helps. Compare both specimens you have there. LFS are not perfect and do mislabel their livestock every now and then.

One is snubbed-nose while others seem to have disproportionate heads size compared to their bodies. Only the fi...
