Re: L046 Biotype Small fish ideas

I will try to copy and post what has been said in the iXingu project page: Ashley Cardinal 25 February at 17:28 Thank you for the add! I am in the process of researching for a Rio Xingu biotype tank and would love advice. I am looking for middle to top dwelling fish that will stay under 2.5" an...

Re: L046 Biotype Small fish ideas

Jools added an aerial video of the habitat just the other day. Go to Hypancistrus zebra , and it's the last one in the long column of photos. You may also be interested in joining the iXingu Project Facebook page. It is run by the scientists currently surveying the river, and they have posted proba...

Re: L046 Biotype Small fish ideas

If you want to recreate the actual conditions where zebras live, the answer would be none. Most would be washed downstream. And then there is the depth at which zebras live. No light to speak of down there, so no live plants nor algae. I am not entirely sure about some of these statements. Regardin...

Re: L046 Biotype Small fish ideas

That's what I have been learning recently. I 100% plan on leaving the zebras as the sole substrate fish. I am only looking to add fish to the mid and top level of the tank. And nothing too boisterous, something calm and peaceful. I do plan on adding a spray bar off a canister filter to create flow i...

Re: Age of my BNs?

Of course, there are factors that vary. If they are kept in large enough tanks and given proper nutrition then they will grow normal. If either of those were lacking prior to your acquire, then they could be behind in growth.

Re: Age of my BNs?

My "guess" is between 6-10 months old. I have some that are about 2.5-3" body and they are between 12-14 months old.

I came home to find another batch of eggs the other day. I think this time its a long fin to long fin breeding. I'm excited to see how this batch turns out :)

Re: BN fin length?

That last pic looks like it might be developing into a long fin? That's what I was thinking and why I snapped the pic of that one. I'm guessing there will be long fins in there. I came home at lunch today to a new batch! :d I think this is a long fin to long fin breeding this time. Only other one w...

Re: BN fin length?

This is my first batch and none have died. All growing about equally. I did talk to a BN specific breeder today and he said he waits until 3 months because they aren't able to determine fin length 100% until that point. He has sold some as standards prior to 3 months only to have the customers say w...

Re: BN fin length?

These are a little over a month old so by what two forums have said I should definitely be able to tell by now. So it looks, oddly enough, that I have all standard fins. :(

Re: BN fin length?

Weird. I just got that answer on another forum. It looks like the entire batch is standard fins then! How weird since the father is long fin??

Re: "Bristlenose" catfish

I currently have long fin and standard fin BN breeding. I'd be glad to help with any info. I will be looking to sell some in a month or two that will have standard and long fin genetics and they threw me albino fry even though both parents are standards.

Wanted: ‘Loricariids of the Middle Xingu River’ by Mauricio Camargo, Heriberto Gimênes Junior, and Lúcia Helena Rapp

If anyone has this book available for sale or even if I can borrow it for about a month I would greatly appreciate it. I am setting up a Rio Xingu biotype tank and want to make it as accurate at possible. Please let me know what you have or where I can possibly find it. Thanks. I have tried the Timb...
