Development of Corydoras sipaliwini

For my photography project, I was able to do a photoseries on the development of Corydoras sipaliwini fry in the first 7 weeks of its life.
With a big thanks to Roland van Ouwerkerk for letting me raise some of his fry.

Re: L201 male or female

With the 3 remaining eggs, I found the 'shells' of about 10 others (there are some young assassin snails in the tank, that I haven't been able to catch yet and I think they might have eaten the other eggs).

But I could very well be she has some 'leftover eggs' or something.

Re: L201 male or female

Don't think the second one is ready, yet ;) only one looked like she was ready. But who know's? I really don't understand these guys anymore. Only one week later, the male is trapping a female again in the same cave (he abandoned the first eggs after 4 days. I found only 3 of them and put them in a...

Re: L201 male or female

That´s a bit difficult…My first instinct would be; ´sure´, but photography is how I make my living. It’s getting increasingly difficult to get work and it’s getting very competitive. This project is a big deal for me. Some people even advised me not to share any of the pictures, until I was ready to...

Re: Ancistrus ID please?

I only have experience with one Ancistrus species, L159. They were captive bred and spawned for the first time 7 months after I got them. I'm not sure how old my fish were when I bought them, but if I look at my own fry, I would say between 3 and 5 months old. That would mean they were between 10 an...

Re: L201 male or female

I can confirm now that I have at least one male and female, because they spawned last night :).

I'm really surprised, because of their size (only about 6cm TL) and the fact that I bought them only 3 months ago. I will try to do another photo series on their development, so I'll keep you posted!

Re: L201 male or female

Your fish are L201, no doubt. Well, that´s sort of my point, I know what I have right now and don´t want to ruin it :d My LFS´s supplier is really good at mislabeling fish, so I can´t really trust them. At this LFS L201 (could be wild caught, could be tank bred) is also 2x as expensive as what I pa...

Re: L201 male or female

Thank you very much, guys! This really helps. The comment about contradens is a good point as well. I made a deal with my LFS to exchange my juvanile L159 for some new fish. The plan was to get 1 or 2 new L201, but it's not their speciality, so it's up to me to determine if their fish are L201 or co...

Thanks!! That´s better news than I expected :). Re: L201 male or female

Thanks! I don't want to be stubborn but in my opinion fish 1 is 100% surely a male. I can spot very long odontodes on the first ray of his pectoral fin with my bare eye's. It's probably a very chubby male :). This is a close-up picture of this area of it's body. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4653/3...

L201 male or female

Hi Everyone, Yesterday I was able to take some pictures of my L201. One of them is cleary a male (visible odontodes on his fin), but I was wondering if you can help me with the other three. Or are they still too young to sex? Fish 1 (male): https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4758/40169144142_d0656f2b5c_...

Yes, I did make the tank myself, but it´s a very simple one. I use a standard 30x20cm glass tank (in The Netherlands you can buy them in almost every pet shop for a few euro) with a white background.

It is 3 pairs of L134 and some cherry shrimps in there. Maybe I will occasionally add some different fry that I want to grow out there for myself. But that's it. I did the exact same thing as you did before. half circle with 2cm 10ppi and 3cm 20ppi. Did not need no cleaning for 2 years on a heavily...

Re: Setting up a Pleco breeder, my style

Thank you for sharing you experiences with the HMF. I was curious how many fish you are going to keep in the 100x40cm tank. I'm using HMF's in my breeding tanks as well and I really like them. I've made a quarter circle filter with 2 sheets. A black 2cm one on the outside and a second (blue) 3cm one...

Re: The development of L159 fry

Thanks everyone!! I did use a special photo tank. The first animal I photographed for my series was a black dog/puppy, so I decided to use a white (studio) background. The consequence was that I had to use the same background and lighting for the fish photo's as well, to make it a consistent series....

The development of L159 fry

A while ago I started a photography project about the development of animals in the first few weeks of their lives. At a certain point, I was getting really frustrated by being so dependent on other people, that I started looking for animals that I could breed myself. That's how I got my first aquar...

Re: Recovering of Corydoras barbels

I feed them twice a day. In the morning 5 days a week different kinds of frozen food and the other two days Viformo and in the evening mostly Bassleer. I'm not a big fan of tablets (if I feed them, I break them into little pieces first) because I think it's better for them if they have to work a lit...

Yes, they can recover. Three months ago I bought 9 C. loxozonus, which all turned out to have badly damaged babels. Re: C. schwartzi or something else?

Hi Eric, Thanks! I guess without more info on the catch location, it will be very difficult to tell what they are. In the Cat-eLog there is a comment with the surinamensis "Mistakenly sold as Schwartzi", so it happened before. My biggest concern is that if they accidently start breeding, t...

Hi everyone, A while ago I bought a group of 8 Corydoras schwartzi. I started with 6 and got 2 more from a different store (same supplier) a few weeks later. One of them looks a bit different: he has a black stripe/spot at this dorsal fin. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p382/MarlonnekeW/_MG_1836...

Re: How bad is froozen food for oto's?

Thank you for the very useful info. I already feared that animal protein (you're right, I feed mostly dead animals like artemia, mysis, black mosquito larvae, daphnia etc.) would be harmful to them. In the other aquarium (were there is still a lot of free space) is a small group of Ancistrus claro a...
