Re: Are they Malapterurus electricus?

I can see new information (to me) is that these are not all the same individual fish. Caudal fin pattern is an important help with ID as well as location as Medaka says. For me, the top one in the image is M. electricus. The other two, if they are different, then we need to see more pictures of the ...

Re: Are they Malapterurus electricus?

I'm still pretty sure of the ID. There are several new(ish) species of Malapterus, but most are not exported. Do you know which part of Africa they came from?

Re: Pleco Identification

I've added these pictures, with a degree of discomfort, into the Ancistrus martini entry. The belly patterning bothers me - while patterning is sometimes initially emboldened in preserved fishes, much less so on soft skin. I could add a note to these ones noting they are closer to the description of...

Re: Amateur, experience-based "revision" of Auchenoglanis giraffe catfish notes 5 species in the aquarium trade

It's hard work producing something like this, so well done on the effort. Seeing as we're talking about it, perhaps best titled as your experience or opinion - if it were me, I'd call it my overview of forms (or patterning); species as you say in the video is a tricky word to use within this genus. ...

Looks like a good ID to me. What did you think it alternatively might be?

Re: Panaque suttonorum

Just to be clear on Dave's excellent comments. The two sister spp. are Panaque cochliodon (Described from Cauca) and Panaque suttonorum (from the rivers into the Maracaibo). We have Panaque cf_cochliodon`upper_magdalena` ("old blue eyes" ;-) ) as a different, third, species.

Might be asking @Medaka to discuss here too - he knows a few things about these fishes.

Re: ID and info?

It looks like Hemidoras stuebelii (but could be Ossancora punctata, it's dark in the pic) - needs a good home and a feed by the looks of it.

Both seem a bit off to me based on eye size and adipose fin shape/colour?

Re: Do I believe in miracles......

Yes, they are amazing, I've seen them do this too. One of the reason they are a "good" food fish is that you can catch a bunch of them and as long as they are not directly dried out, they'll stay fresh for longer than most fishes. Glad it worked out for "lucky" the pleco. Cheers,...

Re: Please help me identify these 3 plecos

The colours are with range if we accept that it's a young fish and moreover, it's stressed/reacting to being over blue gravel. Good ID for me!

Good, and it may help to know any other users of the site, like me, would have seen the new image as soon as it was online.

Then it's a caching issue - go to my fish, hold down the shift key and refresh the page - what then is displayed?

Re: My Rubberlip Plecos (L445) are very active during the day.

It depends on the species, and sometimes it can mean the fish is distressed or very hungry. However, seeing your excellent set-up I just think it's very settled fishes. So, well done!

It could be a caching problem, which is still a bug of sorts, but I don't readily know which is the old and which is the new image of L239. Is the pic posted here definitely your old picture?

Yeah, too quick, but the main thing is it’s identified now. :-)
