Re: Breeding Leporacanthicus sp. cf galaxias L-240

Please post pictures of your fish, and we will try to help with the sexing. The next spawn will happen quite soon. This time I will let the male take care of his business. The water in the main tank is close to 100% RO, and I will keep bacteria to a minimum by not feeding from the time of the spawn ...

Re: Zebra Pleco end of year Sale $100 each

We really don`t need wild cought specimens of this species any more. We already have plenty of them to safely breed them for decades or more. Selling wild cought zebras for only 100$ is price dumping, that actually hurts small breeders economically. Since zebras are illegal to export from Brazil I s...

Re: Breeding Ancistrini sp. L082

Uno is now an older brother  On Tuesday 155 eggs were laid. On Saturday I lost 20. (They turned white) On Sunday I lost 2 (turned white). Monday I lost 20 due to leakage and premature hatching, an Tuesday(today) I lost 31 due to leakage. The total number of healthy hatch-lings today are 82....

They hatched after 6 days with very few losses. I will count them when I move them to the raising tank in a few days time.

Re: Brazil grants licence for Belo Monte dam

There is both capacity and technology to safely deal with radioactive waste for thousands of years. We are talking about small volumes. No one wants it in their back yards, but land can be bought if the price is right. The Fins have found a responsible method by planning and building facilities for ...

Re: Brazil grants licence for Belo Monte dam

Absolutely, but a suvereign state has the responsebility to take care of its own wildlife. The anti-nuclear movement is getting more and more quiet these days, and I sure hope further development of nuclear energy happens soon before its to late. This might seem OT, but it is much less OT than the d...

Re: Brazil grants licence for Belo Monte dam

I wasn`t aware that the aluminium industry was the reason, but I believe over population is generally a big driving force behind growing energy needs and habitat destruction.

Re: Brazil grants licence for Belo Monte dam

Species in general will take care of them selves, and can still be harvested by ornamental fish catchers (who makes a decent living in a healthy and rewarding occupation). This includes species like H zebra, L24,L25,L273 etc. The fishing needs to be regulated eventually, but it can in principal go o...

We will see tomorrow or the day after. Leakage before hatching is my main concern. It usually happens around 24-36 hours before the eggs should hatch. Luckily I only work from 11.00-16.00 tomorrow, so I can clean and assist the eggs/fry if necessary.

Tempted to say sub-zero, but would settle for cool.

I would really wish for Synodontis species to get popular like the L-numbers. They deserve just the same degree of fame as l-numbers. Maybe even more.

I counted 180 eggs from the above picture, so I guess there are around 200 eggs. Its been 48 hours, and I have only lost and removed one egg. This could be the big one

I was not thinking of using UV permanently, but rather switching it on when I see breeding behaviour and swithing it of when fry are ready to leave the cave.

Whats the total count of you're L200 breedings? You well over 200 specimens now? Yes! Now I have more than 200. Because I have enough fry to sell I will attempt to let the next few (2-3) breedings occur naturally. I am adding Cattapa leave extract to the tank and will let the male do his thing natu...

The large L240 on the previous page is a male. I have had one spawn. They hatched 5 days ago and only 4 survived. It was a really bad clutch of eggs. I swear it wasn`t my fault. One of the females is visiting the one eyed male. It is another female than the previous, so very soon I will have two bre...
