Re: Pieces

Sorry, my English is very poor, but I think that the problem is that in English piece means both a single thing (individual, specimen) or a fragment of a bigger thing (piece of cake). In Russian, as Viktor Jarikov said, "shtuka" means an object, but a fragment of this object would be "...

Re: Heteropneustes fossilis - missed spawn?

Mine are all angels, towards the other fish and to me. I'm changing sponge prefilters, they are hidding behind, with a bare hands. During the day they are very shy, "invisible" fish, during the night they are more active, but they are intersted in other Heteropneusteses, not in other fish ...

Synodontis ocellifer latin name etymology addition

In my oppinion the specific name of Synodontis ocellifer means “little eyes bearer” (just like Lucifer=light bearer or light bringer) and comes from ocellus (plural ocelli) = little eye (eyes) and “-fer”, a suffix coming from the irregular verb fero (fers, ferre, tuli, latum) that means to bring (to...

Plastic PVC caves for catfish

A couple years ago I've made a hidden places for my catfish from a flat ventilation channel made of white PVC. Black plastic would be better, but they have a white only. It's not dedicated for water supplies, but I have no problem with toxicity for fish or snails. There is a little story: This is th...

27 years old Heteropneustes fossilis passed away

My 27 years old Heteropneustes fossilis passed away. We spent together all this time, I remember him as a 4 cm wiggling worm. He had no sign of illness, just during the last week was paler and more often swimming around the tank during the day. This is the last photo of him, taken on December 25 200...

Coryman, do you think, that the dark colouration and blindness in these fish is just a coincidence? Or dark colour is caused by blindness, somethink like "night" adaptation, fish with no eyes "thinks" that it is a night? Or it is a kind of melanistic mutation, that causes abnorma...
