Re: Beginners Advice Please

Welcome to Planet Catfish First we should have pictures of the catfishs, to see what you actually have: Especially "Peppermint" could be Parancistrus nudiventris or Ancistrus sp. (L071) (hope the second one). And gernarally fish sold under wrong name is far from seldom and commun names are not alway...

Re: Chaetostoma aff. Milesi?

Agree, makes sense. What about separating the pics a bit; if you move the mouse over the little pics they al say "Chaetostoma aff. milesi", if you look at the big pics they all say "Common Name(s) L445, Spotted Bulldog Pleco, Black Spotted Bulldog Pleco, Spotted Rubbernose Pleco, Villavicencio I", i...

Re: Chaetostoma aff. Milesi?

Yes, Chaetostoma aff. milesi or also called Chaetostoma cf. milesi is the nearest match looking at "planetcatfish" and "Back to Nature Handbuch für L-Welse" @Jools and other moderators, Question: Compareing those two sources, why is "Villavicencio I", which is not the asked fish , on planetcatfish i...

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers

The moment you give classification, you are giving legitimization. Disagree: Breedings will (with or without purpose) happen. Offspring will likely get in trade. People will come here to "What is my catfish?" and ask -> some of us have to tell them what it is and how to keep them. So this hybrids h...

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers

I am not sure yet what we will do when hybrids appear that involved more than one genus. Have a look at wikipedia scroll down to "Examples of plant hybrids" for examples. x Genus1genus2 species (they "forget" parts of the genus) I myself have to say that I don`t really like that way as: 1. the x co...

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers

Also, as stated above, giving hybrids L Numbers (or LH numbers) will increase their value and in turn their purposeful production. I have learned this the hard way. If I take two bags of loricariid fry to a local auction and label one bag with the scientific name and the other with an L Number the ...

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers

Befor debate, it should be sayed that some catfishfolks in germany, on L-Welse.com already had a similar idear but decided to call it LH-Numbers, which can be seen her: http://www.l-welse.com/reviewpost/showcat.php/cat/120 As the L-Numbers a given by DATZ, they will or maybe already have decide(d) a...

It looks a lot like mine and they are Otocinclus macrospilus Let´s better say you think/bought yours are/as O. macrospilus. Got pics, then start your own identification-topic. The two species mentioned are very very similar. And there could be/are more look-a-likes. Easyest way to tell them apart i...

Re: Are these two otocinclus the same variant.

Without known origin it´s rather unlike to find out which one or two species this are (from the look rather two) What can be sayed is that they are not O. xakriaba, O. cocama or O. affinis. Real O. affinis are seldom imported, but often this name is used at many LFS as well as from importers (it`s a...

if it`s a wilde one, we would need a name for the place it came from

Crazy research? From my electrochemical point of view this looks fake Batteries need constant power to charge, electric catfish give shortly non constant high power/voltage (some of as know that), yes they also make canstantly very low power but this is much to low for charging a battery Anyone else...

If you look at pics from the Ciliwung, it`s hard to believe fish can live in that dump :-O well upstream maybe.

Yes, instead of control goldwashing, were the mercury comes from, just forbid poor people, which cannot read, eating this or that fish, that will surely work :YMAPPLAUSE: ~X( :YMAPPLAUSE:
