Thanks for the info. I will move one of the sponges in to the same compartment as the ceramic media - and keep my fingers crossed all goes well.

Close monitoring of all levels will also take place, as well as lesser feeding. :)

Switching to external filtration

Today I switched from 2x internal Fluval 3 plus to an external Fluval 305. The tank is 40 uk gallons (36x15x20). I have left one of the internal filters running, which I will do for some time. My question is will I experience a spike of any kind with the introduction of the new external filter? The ...

Saw these cool little catfish in the LFS today - no name, price or info. They looked white with dark blueish spots on them. I asked the guy what they were - but he didn't know so asked a colleague who said they were Oil Catfish. This would have been one of the only times that I would have bought a f...

Fancy fish are like looking at a modified car; the owners like them and think they look good but some people look at it and think 'That poor car! Why?'

I'm all for the lower price on Zebras! Someone said that it's the demand that drives the price up, when in reality it's people greed. If someone has 20 babies to sell and 50 people waiting to buy them, charging a higher price is only making more money for them and not making these beautiful plecos m...

Both my Panaque maccus (L104) and my
Pseudacanthicus leopardus (L114) dig quite a bit.

The Panaque digs in the sand where a piece of bogwood rests on the sand, and ends up almost underneath the wood out of view. It's surprising that he can move nearly as much sand as the bigger L114 shifts!

My damn heater keeps un-sticking itself from the glass, and ends up resting to the substrate. While my plecos avoid the same can't be said for my coolie loaches. But as yet I've never seen any of them get burnt by it. I might look out for the protectors, though, as they sound like a good preventativ...

If I see a fish I like I usually go on the net to find out as much about keeping it as I can e.g. water parameters, preferable food, good tank mates, max size & preferable water current. That way there are no surprises - unlike the people who buy the nice little Red Tail Catfish for their 4 foot...

To me it looks most like the L236, colouration-wise. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/hypancis/969_1.php The only thing deterring me from say the L236 is the fact that in the pictures in the Cat-elog don't show an anal fin, whereas it's very clear to see on your first two pictures. But ...

Yann, would you be kind enough to translate this if you think it Iainetti would rather it not be in English. I have an L114 and L91 in the same tank, along with L30 and an L66. The L114 doesn't mind the company of the L30 or L66, but is aggressive to the L91 if it strays near 'his' area, which consi...

Another PVC pipe question...

I can get hold of some clear 4 inch diameter 'PVC' pipe from work and wondered whether it's suitable for hiding, or would my plecos feel vulnerable in it? Yep, L114. A bit darker body than my L114 so good to see some different colourations going around. Mine seems to love prawns and sinking catfish pellets, though I also put cucumber, courgette, wafers and flake in (for the others but he may also eat these but not witnessed it.)

I know it seems a bit over drastic but you really should be checked over by a doctor. Any electrical shock you get should, and if it was powerful enough to travel up to your neck then you definitely should. Our body transmits thousands, if not millions, of electrical signals every minute so any inte...

The most stunning has got to be the Zebra, just has to. The pure whiteness of the white and the darkness of the black separated by a perfect line. Personally I 'don't' like them 'much' - there are other plecos I'd want to get before getting a Zeb. The L91, imo, is also stunning. Why would a creature...

And if you're successful be sure to drop me a line if you wanted to sell one - I'm not too far from you.

The fact that I've already got a Panaque maccus didn't sway my reasoning ;-)

What I'd do is pay for the fish but tell the LFS you are going away for a week, and will pick it up when you return. If the fish dies in their care while you are away you get a refund. There's nothing more annoying than when you pass up an opportunity to buy a cool fish then go back wanting to buy i...

I'd like to vote sand, as I think look looks best in the tank.

But out of these two options I'd go for gravel for sure.
