The elegans group

I was browsing through the net and I've noticed people referring to "the elegans group of corydoras". But I had the impression that c. elegans of the elegant cory is only one particular cory, so now I'm confused. Can anybody explain what is meant by the elegans group of corydoras? At the L...

I lost a c. similis just today because of fungus, too. I hope we had melafix locally. Unfortunately, all I had was methylene blue. :(

Goodluck with your sick tril. :)

Bettas & tankmates are hit & miss. It depends on the individual's personality (not on gender). If you do introduce them watch them closely for some time. Some bettas will bite; others see the tankmate and then ignore it. I agree with this. I kept a male veil tail betta with my panda corydor...

Yes, I forgot to mention that besides the spot patterns differentiating one species from another the appearance and length of the snouts might be a factor, too. Thanks for pointing it out. :) One of them might really be ambiacus but the others may be a different species yet. I got six of these spott...

The pygmy corys are definitely active swimmers. Among my corydoras I have observed that C. panda and c. paleatus are the most active-- schooling and scouting for food.

Which spotted cory is this?

The LFS said it's c. leucomelas. But I doubt it. Looks more like ambiacus or agassizi or delphax... I'm not really sure which. I've observed that the slightest difference in spot patterns might mean a different species altogether. I find it very hard to tell them apart. Anyone here has a good eye on...

Trilineatus eggs fungused?

Only water parameter I can give is temperature-- 26 degrees celsius. Other info-- Tap water is treated with Angel Drops water purifier to neutralize harmful metals and toxins in the water and seven drops of methylene blue. Decorations are a driftwood, some plants, and a clump of java moss. I have no...

So I guess it's not the appearance of the container that matters. It's the size. I agree that the glass aquariums are for our benefit and that fish would be perfectly fine in tubs provided they are big enough. Of course stocking ratios should be given a lot of attention, too, along with other parame...

They're trilineatus alright. I've got four of them in my tank. :D They were mislabeled as "julii", too, but you can easily distinguish them in planetcatfish's cat e-log.

I feed my corys Hikari Sinking Wafers (the package has a cute pic of a trilineatus cory)and Tetrabits. The corys love them. I give them live food sparingly as treats. I dig deep holes into the gravel for them sometimes and they love the muck and leftover worms that come out of it.

MTS... Got a nice ring to it.

Gotta admit, with the sheer number of corydoras species (natural ones) going around and having bitten by the "collecting bug", it's pretty predictable that I'd get MTS sooner or later.

Looks like finrot. It's very rare among corys because of their "armor" among other things. This makes them more resistant to external bacteria than other fish. Maybe that's why the other corys in the tank did not get infected. But since this particular fish already got infected before, may...

Ideally, you should keep at least 5 of the same species together. But they will school with other species anyway. I have read that pandas are more delicate than the other species but I have kept 5 of them in a 5 gallon tank with water temp as high as 29 degrees celsius during summertime and I've had...

The elegans can hybridize with the napoensis. I would separate the two species if you want to breed the napoensis. As you are interested in breeding corys it is better to keep species tanks for this purpose. Mark This is such an eye-opener. I have not thought about hybridization among cories. I jus...
