Re: Tocantinsia piresi

Can I ask how big your specimen is? I can't help with sexual dimorphism, though being an Auchenipterid, would it not be similar to other fish of this family where the male has the modified anal fin copulatory organ? As an aside, @Jools - I noticed the SL for Tocantinsia piresi is 3.9" yet Fishb...

Re: ID of possible synodontis ornatipinnis (?) bought as corydoras

I'd also be wary of your supplier, as the true Synodontis don't come from South America at all, they are from the African continent. Often these hydrids come from breeders in Europe, and so they definitely did not come in with a South American shipment. As stated above, they are not suitable for you...

Re: ID of possible synodontis ornatipinnis (?) bought as corydoras

If you click on the link Jools provided above, you can find out more about the fish. As Jools says, it's a hybrid (mix of at least two species) and will definitely be too large for an 85L tank. It's not a typical community fish, unless that community are medium to large fish. I'd either suggest you ...

A rare opportunity to keep a fresh water Arid. And if they look a bit similar to the well known species, they mus be beautiful. I'm a bit anvious I'm unfamiliar with the family in general so I am not sure which species you are referring to? They have a mostly solid black body color...hopefully I'll...

Wels Atlas Book 1 (German)

I’ve just noticed that as well as “Welse aus allen Erdteilen”, I also have the first book of the Wels Atlas in German as well! Not asking anything for it but due to the weight, you’d need to cover postage. Obviously can’t give a cost until I know where it’s being posted to!

Welse Catfish Book (German) **FREE**

I was given this book many years ago and it’s sat on my bookshelf for all that time.
Does anybody want it? It’s in excellent condition. I’d appreciate at least the cost of postage going to your favourite charity, but it’s free to anyone who’d like it.

I'd say a standard, but very nicely coloured male Bolivian Ram. Looking at the reply from jams in this post, the male in the comparison photo is similar to yours. Is your 2.5"-3" total length (including tail)?
Thanks

Re: Treating Planaria infestation in L number Catfish Tanks

Hi
Do you have any other fish in the tank? You could introduce (if only temporarily) mollies, bettas, angelfish, all are known to eat planaria in the aquarium. But as Eric says, reduce feeding and/or hoover out the leftovers/waste more often.

I know the original author of this post (Marc van Arc) kept the same species, though pretty sure he's no longer present on PC. Re: What woodcats are being bred by pc members?

@Catfish-ologist - good luck with the Tetranematichthys wallacei - be interested to find out how you do with these as they can sometimes be difficult to maintain in aquaria. I had one many years ago that lasted for little over a year, then died for no apparent reason, even though it was feeding regu...

Yes it’s metal, brass coloured, and I think painted. There was, if I remember correctly, a set but I can’t remember which others were included.

I wouldn't suggest pencil fish, but go for the deeper bodied fish such as the phantoms (red/black), diamond or red eye tetras. Smaller tetras and pencil fish can be known to sleep on the gravel, making easy for predation.

Difficult to be sure from the photo, but almost definitely a hybrid. A photo in the tank with normal lighting would help confirm.

Hello all. I just got myself a gulper catfish yesterday. I got silversides and tilapia to feed the little guy. He's currently 4" and is in a 40 gallon tank for now. I tried to feed him/her but it doesn't seem to want to eat. Any suggestions? Hi Was it eating when you bought it? If so, what was...

I was feeding them a variety of frozen, freeze dried, and live foods, and various flakes. Sadly, I'm not convinced the Tetranematichthys ever really ate much, as they all withered slowly and eventually died. Conversely, the Ancistrus and Batrochoglanis are growing well. Cheers, Eric Sad to hear...I...

There are several black with white/yellow spotted type 'plecos', and I'm definitely no expert but do know a photo of the mouth (from underneath) can help as the shape of the teeth is a useful identification feature.

Still a great fish, they take a variety of foods and can be quite active at feeding time.

I'm pretty sure you'll have no problem getting the plastic bead to stick, and as you say, with a blade, it will be easy to remove when needed. There is no pressure being exerted (unless you make the beads much narrower than the foam?) as it's only holding it in place if I understand your plan correc...
