Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info

I was doing some filter maintenance today and come across 5 fry, I would guess they are around 10 days old.
Well no doubt they are egg scatterers. Maybe I'll have to do a proper breeding setup for them.

Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info

Actually now that I think of it, I believe Oliver (BelowWater) did mention the collection point, I'll have a look back through the e-mails. Below Water is indeed an excellent source for rare fish. I have order several times from them and always very pleased with the out come. I have mostly been gett...

Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info

Here is a picture that was provided to me by Below Water which whom I got them from. These are the smaller juveniles but there are two larger ones, around 6" or so that display only a spotted pattern with a blue skin tone.

Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info

I'd say the first thing you need to do is post a picture of them so we can confirm it is even close to Trichomycterus punctulatus. Note spelling, it's another small clue it's been sold without a huge regard to ID... Jools, I too am suspicious of the spelling, some of the larger specimens I have are...

Re: Trichomycterus punctatus info

Hey guys, thanks for getting back to me. How might I go about posting a picture of them? I can certainly see how they are good climbers as while netting them from the bag to the holding tub they were quickly climbing up the net as if it were a ladder. I have the water level dropped by about 4" ...

Trichomycterus punctatus info

I recently purchased a group of Trichomycterus punctatus (Blue eel catfish) and was wondering if anyone had any information or experience with them. I do believe they are newer species but I was not able to find much on them.
Thanks,
Matt

Tridensimilis brevis feeding?

I have been doing a fair amount if research about Tridensimilis brevis, in particular about their feeding habits and requirements. However I just wanted to verify with you folKS about my interpretation of the info I have found as it is sometimes a bit back and forth. So if I am not mistaken, Tridens...

Breeding Hoplos?

I recently obtained a group of ten Hoplosternum littorale; they are eating well on frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp and sinking pellets.
I was wondering at what size should they be sexually mature?

Thanks for the tip. For myself in Canada, I can get my hands on Microbe-Lift/Lice & Anchor Worms which indicates is ok for use with scaleless fish and does not affect my cycle.

Fish lice treatment for scaleless fish?

During their quarantine process, I noticed yesterday that my Gulper Cats seem to have come with some hitch hikers that I have ID as fish lice. I know the physical removal of the lice will be required but is there any treat methods or meds that will be safe for my scaleless gulper cats?
Thanks.

Re: Gulper catfish food?

Indeed, I will give your suggested method a try, live, dead and then non live. I too agree that this species does not seem to be a fussy eater. I do believe even within the species info contained on this site, it has Oliver Luncas mentioning that these fish in the wild will just about try to put any...

Re: Gulper catfish food?

Thanks for the post. So far I have tried them on thawed raw shrimp, silversides, pellets and earth worms. Neither were a success, so regrettably I had to begin feeding gut loaded feeder fish for the time being just to keep the Gulpers going. I'm hoping as time passes (as they are wild caught) they w...

Gulper catfish food?

Hey everyone, I was wondering what is everyone feeding their gulper cats. I was planning on offering my 4 that I just had ordered in, live earth worms, raw shrimp, chopped tilapia and pellets....if they'll take them. Or is feeding them huge feeder fish the only option, as Youtube would depict lol. I...

Oh no certainly Viktor, I agree with you totally. It would be interesting to see but certainly flirting with some type of cruelty line.
Well the same I would assume could be placed on feeder fish as well.

The only info I have been able to track down was people using Goldfish as hosts for the Vandellia cirrhosa and simply rotate the hosts on a regular basis.

Re: Spawning Clown Plecos?

I have spawned them in both bamboo and clay pipes, but bamboo is preferred. The diet above, depending on frequency, sounds rich. Driftwood should be their main diet. I usually fed algae wafers once a week, but that was mainly to make myself feel like I was "helping." Not sure the fish care...

I am currently using Onedrive to post my pictures but I cannot figure out how to do so and actually have the picture shown on the page rather than just the link to the pic. Has the build and shape of a chubby pleco but the pattern of a BN almost. Any here they are, hopefully they work unde...

Re: Spawning Clown Plecos?

There is a good amount of drift wood in their tank, that they certainly do gnaw away at for sure. I have replaced a couple of pieces since getting them in fact as it seemed that stripped it off as I noticed the plecos were no longer feeding off it. I don't feed the beef heart/tilapia mixture, about ...

I have had a group of six Clown Plecos for roughly 8 months or so and was hoping to spawn them. I was wondering what the sexual maturity size might be for Synodontis lucipinnis. I recently obtained a group of 12, what I would consider juvenile size (approx. 1.5" - 2"). Just want to make sure so I have an idea when to start adding the spawning caves.

Thanks,
