So the slightly more elongated snout in c.delphax is the best way of distinguishing between that and c.ambiacus?

In which case, Chef, Ian has ID'd the top one in this thread: - http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14163 as c.delphax. This fish does not have a brownish colouration. I'm thinking that the difference lies in the dorsal colouring (how it bleeds into the body) or the 'orange' blob on t...

Corydoras delphax or ambiacus/agassizii? Others too!!

Got 2 of this type as a freebie (makes a change for me!!) were sold to the guy as c.punctatus . Typical for all types of corydoras that look similar to this to be labelled under the bracket of punctatus !! Anyway, I'm very confused as to correct ID between delphax and ambiacus . Could someone defini...

Sorry, that was my fault as I was the one that suggested it.

As we are all intrigued to know what species these are, it may be a good idea to move it into it's proper and relevant section anyway.

Sorry again!!

Well, fullt adult delphax generally lose their spots and are quite easy to distinguish. Also, male delphax have black on their first soft dorsal ray which is usually elongated further than the main dorsal spine. c. agassizii and ambiacus are very difficult to distinguish because the patterning is so...

When my pygmaeus were spawning regularly (once a month at least) they were at a much higher temperature than Ian's. These were my readings. pH = 7.2 KH = 3 TDS = roughly 200ppm (GH = 12) Temp = around 25.5 C I had a breeding group of 8 in an 18" x 15" x 12" tank. Good luck with yours!...

I got your book this morning Ian, even signed by you!!! Thanks for sending it so quickly!! These similarities are so tricky!! I'm convinced that 1 and 2 are different. The dorsal spot is in a completely different position. In 2 it is in the same position as for c. trilineatus, in 1 it just about comes into the dorsal from the body. Also, and more obviously, 2 has a heavily reticulated hea...

Vampire plecs

Aside from L007 L.galaxius, are there any other plecs which exhibit the elongated teeth or is it peculiar to this species? Reason being, my missus' Galaxy Plec died after a battle with my red-tailed plec!! I would like to replace it but can find no L007 around me or on the net. She doesn't mind what...

Can't be c melanistius as there are no caudal markings on melanistius and there are on your fish.

Corydoras Schwartzi Variante?

Spotted this amongst a batch of melanistius. Is this a variant of c schwartzi or maybe a c. agassizii variant? This fish has extra long barbels!! The best match I've found from the Aqualog catalogue is 'Corydoras sp. "SPOTTED-LINE"' on page 46. Checking Ian's site ... http://www.corydorasw...
