I don't agree with S. nigrita. The jaw barbels of S. nigrita are much smaller. Also the black spots of young S. nigrita are smaller. Please post another photo in a few month when the fish is bigger.

Re: Syno. Ocellifer

They have the juvenile coloration, so nobody can say if they are real S. occelifer.
For me they looks like youngsters of these Synodontis: http://www.synodontis.net/CONTENT.PHP?AW=209&SD=1
But the juvenile coloration is similar in some riverine species...

Re: killer snails eating my L134 eggs?

I have Melanoides tuberculata and Melanoides granifera in all of my tanks. I´ve never seen them eating good eggs. Hypancistrus, Peckoltia, Corydoras, Synodontis, Lophiobagrus... no problems - the eggs hatch between the snails! I give this snails also to the breeding tanks after the fishes have spawn...

The plastic is self made by my dad. He used it in the 1980s for breeding other catfishes. I have it stolen. :- In this case it´s really easy. Feed them good with bloodworms and make some large water changes. Then they will do it. The fry are also easy to keep alive. If they are all hatched i put a h...

Make some Synodontis!

You only need a small breeding tank. Here a 40x25x25 cm 25 litre tank (for larger species as 12 cm use a bigger tank): http://simsoli.com/data/media/4/IMG_7589.JPG A female Synodontis: http://simsoli.com/data/media/4/IMG_7632.JPG (better use a gravid one - this fish has spawned one day before) And a...

Here you can find some nice photos from these snails: http://www.spec.at/2012/02/23/anentome-helena-raubschnecke/ In the photos the snails eats eggs from Corydoras. Yes they eat now! First i have tried frozen Cyclops, Brine Shrimp and Mosquito larvae without any visible success. Then i have tried different flakes, granulate, freeze dried and decapsulated brine shrimp. Now they get a mix from all these and they eat. BUT THE BEST, what they really like are cooked...

Hi, I have bred S. petricola and S. lucipinnis. At the moment I have youngsters from both species. They spawn very similar. Thats my way in the community tank: http://simsoli.com/data/media/4/laichschalen_c.jpg It works fine with both species, but my S. lucipinnis also use the plants and the corners...

Hi, after a long time of search, today i got my first Chiloglanis sp. Ordered as Chiloglanis batesii, delivered as "Chiloglanis mixed". I think C. batesii is not correct. Probably C. asymetricaudalis, C. occidentalis or an other one? They have a size of around 4-4,5 cm and if i see correct...

Re: Lophiobagrus brevispinis Breeding tank.

Hi, the best way to breed my Lophiobagrus cyclurus are half coconuts with only one hole, large enough for the male. I have tried some other caves, but everytime they prefer the coconuts. The coconuts have the same effect like wood, as posted by sidguppy. So I use only old coconuts, which was for 1 o...

Re: Searching confirmed grandiops and multipunctata breeding

Hi Larry, 1. Was there any specific trigger used to get them to spawn? No special triggers. Mosquito larvae and water changes are a good way to bred a lot of fishes. 2. How large, and old, are the adults. The "adults" have only 8 cm. I´ve bought them one year ago with arround 4 cm. 3. Are ...

Re: Dwarf synodontis species?.

S. petricola/lucipinnis are easy to bred and you can make first experience with spawning Synodontis, but i think it doesn't really help to spawn S. euptera or an other riverine species like S. nigriventra/S. contracta. Microsynodontis could also be interesting for you, but i know no breeding report....

A male of L. cyclurus can be very aggressive to an other male. See my youtube video from the worst fight, I´ve ever seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLy2ul9...
