My newest acquisitions

Zebra Knife... Always wanted one of these!

Thermometer knifes (I have 4), these are delicate so the battle is on to find the right foods that they like, get them feeding well and fattened up.

This is one family of catfish that needs re-classifying... Tatia and Centromochlids. The above fish has a similar pattern to Tatia Brunnea. I asked Steven Grant his view - 'I've checked the neurocranium of your fish and they do not match brunnea. Colour pattern is similar but osteology is different'...

Here's 2 specimens of Brachyhypopoma, from Leticia.
Ive had both specimens for about 3 weeks, both are eating well. The larger specimen is approx 15cm and quite chunky.

Here's one of the new large Tatia species species that has recently appeared in the hobby.

Also, I have not seen this fish attempt to bury itself in the sand.

All the Imparfanis species pictured in the Catelog fit your description of whitewater fish colouration.

I don't think this fish is the same. It's well-pigmented with a black-purple body and a pale orange tail... presumably for a reason. Maybe clearwater, deep water... And for display?

But why then, would it not exhibit black colouration in its natural habitat?

This fish's colour faded a little when it was netted, but was black again very soon after being released.

Imparfinis has not been mentioned, til now.

This specimen is now fully quarantined and settled and feeding well.

This cat is a mini-masterpiece! It has the outline of a brachyplatystoma but is only 3" long+ that huge tail. I think it maybe nearly fully grown.

The beauty of this shop is... The guy who runs it knows what he's doing and sources the real deal. This fish came to the UK from the Congo via france... A long journey.
With some tlc, good water and good food it was soon ready for its next journey... to my place.

I have to say my experience is different Marc. For many years I have used Wormerplus which contains flubendazole, in a tank containing glass knife fish.

IMV worms are definitely the right food to help them fill-out.

That's interesting reading.

It seems this family has not been explored much, in aquaria.

I'll see how it goes with a single specimen and if it goes well, I'll look to get some more. So far... it's pooing like there's no tomorrow!

That's very helpful Matt, thank you. I have a single specimen in a tank that has algae and I'm trying to obtain the soilent green food. In the meantime I'm experimenting with other foods. My water is probably too warm for this fish longterm, at 27c, but maybe that's why I've managed to avoid whitesp...

I lost the last 2 of those ageneiosus fairly recently... and I can't say for certain why. Possibly diet-related, or maybe the water was too warm... I don't know. They were always fragile :(( My remaining glass knife fish are thriving and - yes, a decent gymnotid book would be useful. Looking forward...

I have kept a few synos and currently have a group of flavi's, but I don't know the family well enough to know that this is a hybrid. What indicators make you guys so sure? It's pattern may change as it grows... it's only a 2" fish and apparently Ornatipinnis gets to around 16". So what ot...
