Re: Another “what we got here” thread

This video really demonstrates how the behavior of this fish differs from most others. They forage with purpose almost and are very high strung as even the most inconsequential action will send the whole shoal darting for cover. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/r288/bsmith782/FullSizeRender(12...

Re: Another “what we got here” thread

Here’s something else for you to chew on if you like. A week or so ago I purchased a lone juvenile from the same that also came from the same source as mine (I think the breeder is selling them under the Cw045 identity to the store.) The pics in the catElog resemble this juvenile quite heavily but t...

Re: Another “what we got here” thread

The fish appears to have body spots and a spotted tail. CW045 has unspotted flanks, but I see lots of spots on the sides of your fish in these photos. If your fish are a short snout species, I'd go with Corydoras(ln9) brevirostris before Corydoras(ln9) melanistius , which has almost a hyaline tail ...

Another “what we got here” thread

One of my favorite local stores had a small heard of these guys labeled as Melanistius but not spotted even and one of the employees was saying he believed they were CW045’s. When I was observing them in the store tank with normal gravel and no other objects they stayed in a tight group and were all...

So what are we going with here because I am flipping back and forth between pics of L333 and L134 and my fish and I can’t really distinguish one from the other. Especially that last pic and mine.

Re: I now have S.Barbatus fry

I need to take some pics! I have about 30 or so fry in the tupperware now with 15 or so being from the very first spawn I collected (I would have many more but I get lazy from time to time and dont change the water in the container/feed as much as I should). I have just been collecting eggs that the...

Re: I now have S.Barbatus fry

So its day five and from my research that means its time to start feeding. Or is that supposed to be 4-5 days from hatching? Either way one premature feeding is better than a missed feeding I guess. Im just not seeing much of a yolk sac in comparison to my pleco fry, which is very obvious and yellow...

There was absolutely nothing you could have done. Just poor luck on your part. Like I said earlier. It's nature, in real nature animals die everyday fur myriad reasons.

Re: Young pleco won't eat. Help?

Try crushing up some flake food you have and sprinkle it in the tank. I have never seen a cat tha wouldn't gobble it up with the lights out.

But sometimes there are fish that just won't make it. It's nature unfortunately.

Awesome. I have been corresponding with a pretty well known online wholesaler that raises Barbarus and she was saying that she had AB issue with young reaching a certain size and then ceasing to grow anymore. Ever heard of that?

I now have S.Barbatus fry

I started a new thread as my previous thread was only to ID the eggs and that was taken care of. Here is the link to the original thread where I was trying to ID the eggs as I have S.Barbatus and Black Schultzeis in the tank. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35385 I came ho...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

I have fry. They were probably just recently released as I actually have a pic of one that is only a tail sticking out of the egg! I dont think that one is alive as there was no wriggling going on. I counted about 15 but there are still quite a few that are still waiting to bust out. But im not goin...

Re: CORYDORAS VENEZUELANUS-Was it bred in captivity?

I really like the llanos form, they remind me of my black schwartzi. I find the harder the fish is to breed whether difficulties lie in keeping the specimen alive, recreating a habitat conducive of breeding or rearing fry, the more rewarding it is when I have success. It took me 2.5y to get my L183'...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

Man I did not think that removing ~35 eggs from the glass and putting them in a container would be so hard! It took me almost an hour to do and I still lost a few eggs. I am using a 5"x5" Tupperware container to house the eggs. I have it floating in the tank they were laid in and have an a...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

Yep and my 84 degree L183 tank they rot pretty quickly. The IAL have a very sturdy spine that does not degrade that aids in removal of the spent litter. I need to reorder some of those as I am moving heavily into keeping wild bettas. Do you have a US supplier for them as I can only find them is SE ...

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

Hopefully I get some fry to feed! Any chance you know the incubation period roughly? I really like leaf litter. It's in all my CRS tanks and I believe the microorganisms "aufwechs" (I think) that reside afte a couple of weeks are a wonderful source of nutrition for all inverts and cat fry....

Re: Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

I use IAL in all my tanks not only to reduce pH but also I find that the tannins from the leaves have an antiseptic effect. I have an eheim 2217 with a lilly pipe outflow that causes a good amount of air/water turbulance Directed From right to left on the back of the tank ans a mini elite filter flo...

They are a relatively young group. I will have had them one year this May. So is it suggested that I remove the eggs/all other cats to stop them from cannibalizing the fry?

Egg ID (s.barbatus or Black C. Schultzei)

Well ass usual when you almost give up 'trying' to get your fish to breed they do! I was downstairs in my 'fish room' (5 tanks, 2 with fish) really just an unfinished part of my basement near the AC drainage, I thought it would be a good idea to clean out the Eheim 2217 that has "made in W.Germ...
