Re: MTS and PLeco Eggs
Trumpet snails do not eat live healthy eggs. They do eat the infertle and fungused eggs. Some cory breeders put trumpet snails in with eggs to eat the bad ones and stop the spread of fungus.

Re: Loricaria info
The German Blue Rams are as big as anyone around here has seen. They are 3+ inches long and do not bother the Loricaria or try to take away their eggs. I also have with them a couple of pairs of Gold and Electric Blues.

Re: Loricaria info
I keep and breed my Loricaria simillima in a 100 gallon tank with discus, torpedo barbs and German blue rams at 83 degrees F. A box filter in one end and a 500 Aqua Clear on the other. I have never had a problem and raise lots of fry by taking the eggs a day or two before they are ready to hatch.

Re: Breeding Albino BN's with Longfin Normal BN's?
I have found that the females carry the gene for finnage. I crossed a male short finned albino that was pure from short fin stock that had been around before long fins were developed. How do you know that the male was pure short-fin stock? Have you tried crossing the male's offspring with their sib...

Re: Identification Question
Thank you. There are a lot of fish that leave it questionable as to whether they are separate species or just colour variants.

Re: Breeding Albino BN's with Longfin Normal BN's?
I have found that the females carry the gene for finnage. I crossed a male short finned albino that was pure from short fin stock that had been around before long fins were developed. He spawned with a brown lace long fin female. All the resulting fry were brown but about 20% were long fin. They hav...

Identification Question
I picked up a trio of cories at a LFS. They were the only 3 in the tank and had no name given. According to the pictures they are probably C. axelrodi they also look like the picture of CW-021. My question is are they both the same fish?

Re: L204 Feeding + New Tank Substrate Question
My 204's eat everything. Sinking cichlid pellets, wafers all frozen foods as well as vegetables. They are not fussy eaters. But they are big 6 inch fish that are reluctant to spawn.

Re: L-183 eggs that wouldn't hatch
After a good number of failed or eaten spawns I finally got a successful spawn of 50 fry from my 183's last spring. I found all it takes is one or more eggs to go bad and the male trys to chew them out of the clutch and gets carried away. Next thing you know a chewed up ball of eggs would be kicked ...

Pleco Cookies
What is the seaweed that you are using? Agar a type of seaweed bought at health food stores is used by discus breeders in the beef heart as it has a higher melting point than gelatin. Some people are baking these cookies in the oven before refrigerating them.

Pleco Cookies
Has anyone got a recipe for making pleco cookies for meat eaters. All I can find on my search is for snail cookies for feeding and raising snails. I have heard of a few people experimenting but no positive results.

Cory life span
Under conditions that suit them cories can live a long time. I knew of a fellow years ago that had a small group of Aeneus that were 20 years old and still spawning. I have some such as my Rabauti and A few others that are at least 10 years old. Good food and water as well as temperatures in the low...

Pleco worms
I have had possibly the same problem with a couple of long fin albino bushynose plecos. I first noticed fine redish brown threads hanging from the anus. I have been able to get rid of them by holding the fish in a net and carefully pulling out the worms that are up to a 1/2" long out with a pai...

Sexing L-183
I have an adult trio of L-183's. The females have no bristles at all. I also have L-182's. Some females have no bristles at all and some do. But they are around the mouth but not down the top of the nose like the males. Most of these plecos I have found take at least a year to grow up and do not spa...

Alder Cones
I use the European Black Alder Cones to protect cory eggs and pleco eggs that get kicked out of caves. The tannic acid in the cones is the main ingredient that does the job of protecting eggs from fungus. I have been experimenting and have used it to make water acidic to spawn tetras and other fish ...

There are several vegetables and greens that I feed that no one mentions. I cook the heavy stocks from broccoli and then split them open. Ancistrus love the soft inside. A first food for the ancistrus fry is snow peas blanched then frozen. Thaw then split them open and they eat them down to veins in...

I recently purchased three L204. It looks like they are all males (see also http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18694 for the topic I opened about my L204). For this reason I am looking for L204 females. I got in contact with someone who has two L204 and is maybe willing to trade one...

L-66 King Tiger Success
In January I had problems with a King Tiger spawning. The fry refused to eat and started to die and all attempts to save them failed. But my second pair had spawned a few days later and were left in the cave until they started to hatch and were being swished out. I removed the fry and unhatched eggs...

L-204 Plecos
My 6 L-204 Flash plecos were between 3 and 4 inches long when I bought them last February. They are now big enough to spawn and hopefully not far from it. At least 2 are now mature males 6"+ long not counting the filaments on the tail. The females are plump and about 5". A lot of sparing a...

L-066 King Tiger Fry Problems
After 55 years in the hobby and raising a few thousand fish of various species every year I usually am able to figure out the answers to my own problems. But sometimes some one has answers to save you the losses that you have trying to figure things out. Early in January my King Tigers kicked out a c...
