Re: 20 gallon breeding tank?
Darrel, Great information about the worms. I began collecting "Nightcrawlers" about 55 years ago. "Nightcraweling" on my hands and knees through wet lawn with a red filtered flashlight. They are very light sensitive and quickly withdraw into their tunnel but they aren't as sensit...

I should have written: Avoid the "earthworm" species Eisenia fetida.
They can be confused with some of the tastier species of smaller worms.

If you are only going to be gone less than one week do not worry about feeding.
Far more fish are lost when others take care of your fish when you are gone.

Re: 20 gallon breeding tank?
Raise earthworms. I know no better food for conditioning fish large enough to eat them.
They may be grown in many different containers. No need to tie an aquarium up.
Note: Avoid "Red Wrigglers". Breed Lumbricus terrestris AKA "Night Crawlers".

I would recommend .
I consider them to be the Hypancistrus equivalent to the common Bushy Nose.
Very easy and prolific. The fry are a breeze to raise and they grow fast.
Often begins spawning by age 18 months.

You either segregate the sexes or use the eggs/fry as fish food otherwise BN will over run any breeding tank.
They are extremely prolific as you have discovered.

Re: Hastatus fry not surviving...
I only used microworms in a pinch. BBS were the key to my fry thriving. Actually bbs were what I considered to be the staple food for all ages. A simple BBS hatchery setup can be covered with an inverted plastic garbage bag. The cysts hatch within 20 hours. I place a low wattage CFL to supply heat b...

I raised about 1000 C. hastatus over a 2 year run from a permanent colony set up in a 20 long. Soft water is helpful as your tap water seems to be but I would want to see a pH between 6.0 to 7.2 and water temps of about 82 to 84*F. I introduced the use of Eheim pre-filter tubes as fry refuges. I als...

Feed Peckoltia fry high protein foods.
I've raised nearly 900 Peckoltia compta on earth worm sticks but they grow fast and can soon take live or chopped black worms and frozen blood worms. Peckoltia aren't much of an algae eater.

I've used cherry shrimp in my pleco breeding tanks. The 2 never interact. Fry are never at risk. Hope you find a male. There ought to be someone who has a surplus of them.

I always liked having a thin layer of substrate in my pleco breeding tanks. I used less than 1/4 inch of CoralLife PlantGro. Here is a photo of my old 40 gal breeder setup. The stand is all steel purchased from Home Depot for $125 back in 2006. No bolts needed. It just snaps together. I had to build...

About 22 inches SL according to http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=101. I had a juvenile of some Malapterus species about 40 years ago which was only about 6 inches in TL. I did happen to touch it in a net and was rather shocked at how strong it's shock was. Hardly any danger...

I also get earthworm sticks from kensfish. About the thin layer of sand it's mostly a matter of personal preference. I feel it helps to produce a bit more complex ecology. I also often kept colonies of Cherry Shrimp in my breeding tanks for the same reason. I used live blackworms and some would esca...

I would leave it alone because this type of lesion often resolves by itself.
It may become larger but could still eventually go away.
I've never seen a catfish die from this weird problem and it certainly isn't contagious in my experience.

Some will say yes, others no. I collect a lot of my wood. I will cut roots out of dead trees that have been in the rivers for years. If you high pressure wash it, bake/cook it, it should be fine. If you own a "kiddie"plastic pool, you can let it sun bake in there (no water) then add water...

Since you can see this best does the lesion appear to be more like a swollen vesicle or is it white, fuzzy and/ or ragged? If it is the former it may disappear non it's own or you could use a very sharp instrument to trim it off. The excised portion of the caudal fin will regenerate. You can paint t...

I suspect the juvenile L144's you purchased were already a bit stunted but that doesn't mean they won't eventually catch up. I also recommend feeding them much more protein. I haven't kept any pleco yet which went on to breed that I fed primarily earthworm sticks, frozen bloodworms and some live bla...

Okay, so if it's just going to be a free-for-all, with breeders experimenting however they like to get all kinds of Hypancistrus colour patterns, then who cares what they are called? I don't care, and I'm sure the 'average customer' that just wants a pretty fish doesn't either. The husbandry will b...

I lean towards that little guy being a Corydoras paleatus because of it's large dorsal fin, stretched body and mottled color pattern.
C. habrosus fry tend towards a stockier build although their fry are just about the same size at hatching as most of the non-dwarf species.

Since you plan to keep a variety of species from all over the world your possible choices are almost endless. I personally wouldn't stock it with the Ameiurus nebulous(Bullhead Cat).
