to me the most important thing is the heater, It's liek you have to have trust that it won't cook them,or stop working and make them too cold, or electrocute you or them or both.

all my plants grow well in sand, but i use regular plants cause i have regular flourescent lighting.

when our power goes out, usually from 1-7 hrs i do the following. I have tons of battery operated air pumps and tons of D batteries on stand by. some people don't like the tahitian moon sand by carib sea tho but I haven't experienced any problems, no barbel erosion seen.
