Is there anybody who has an idea? Fish is approximately 18-20 SL.

Auchenoglanis senegali? The adipose fin looks unusually short, but it could be due to the camera angle.

Makes perfect sense...would be nice to see the rear of the fish, with the caudal open.

I've read somewhere that A. senegali has tree horizontal lines of spots on the body and had distinct spots on the fins. Could be a mach. As soon I've better pics I'll post them here.

Sweet little guy, Bijn. Yours? There seems to be three rows of spots. Please post more pics, and if ID is agreed upon, Cat-eLog could use more than 1 pic that is there atm.

I would say Parauchenoglanis but have to check species from my papers later.

My opinion is Parauchenoglanis pantherinus or Parauchenoglanis longiceps, based on long and low body and relatively long snout.

Bijn got this one from me
a while ago I bought 2 small Parauchenoglanis in Germany at ZooZajac

they turned out to be not a pair (what I hoped), but this guy and 1 Parauchenoglanis punctatus

I have determined this guy so far as one species I found in Seegers' book of African catfishes, but I can't remember without the book (I'm at work) which species
but the picture in Seegers was a good match

its definitely not Auchenoglanis.

I'll be back on this as soon as I get home.

Parauchenoglanis ahli

that's the species I've been thinking about for this fish.

the only thing that definitely didn't fit is the size given by Seegers, but that might be caused by a small juvenile holotype.

Bijn's fish has passed that size, almost doubled it.

but the P ahli occurs in a very wide area and hence is likely to occur in the trade.

I can see what you are saying but the adipose still does not seem right in these pictures, seems more concave as opposed to convex in the upper forward part of the fin.

I would still like to see a horizontal shot of the rear of the fish(adipose, caudal)where the angles are not affecting the view.

You do have the benefit of having seen the fish directly.

I've kept both for quite a while; first in the 300L tank, later in the big un

since P punctatus has a size given of 50 cm or so, I decided to trade the other one (this one) and Bijn wanted to have it.

it has always been the more visible; my punctatus is very shy. but I love the look of that fish!

I recently got this catfish from Bijn.
I have some more pictures some maybe an id is now possible?

I made a small film from the catfish, so it might hopefully be possible to get an id from it.
He/she doesn't come out often but it's one great catfish

A difficult one apparently. Judging by it's current size (28cm), I lean towards Parauchenoglanis longiceps.

Sorry about the empty post. Can't help you but didn't want you to feel ignored. As you hint, I am sure experts see this but are, perhaps, unsure either. Birger knows this genus real well and he has already contributed. I can't remember atm who else could really help.
