If you would like to email me a few pictures (esp. as they are now e.g. adult) then I will have a chat with Jose Birindelli about them. He was one of the co-authors on that species description too and is helping me revise that family in the cat-elog.
Cheers,
Jools

It's hard to tell from the image but they look like pigmentation rather than pores. If so it rules out phlyzakion.
According to Mark Sabaj we need a pic of the infranuchal scute to be more helpful ion ID.
Get a close up of the end of the post cleithral (humeral) process and we might be able to see part of the infranuchal scute.
He thinks it has a look of Doras carinatus.

Is this the shot I should be working on?
(I still don't have a macro lens)

Yes but you need to concentrate nearer the tip and the scutes/bones above and near teh end of it (left hand end as you look at this picture)

I will lighten the last image up and see if Mark can ID it based on the image.

I'm inclined to add it to the site as Doras phlyzakion. Any feedback from Mark, Steve?
Cheers,
Jools

cool!
this is exactly the same fish that we would get in the late 80' and early 90's in the shop labelled as "Hassar notospilus"
it's a golden oldie.
unfortunately very few LFS wanted to order them, back then the mortality rate with these was too high.

Hi Jools
Sorry, Mark didn't get back to me the last time. I think he's been out of the country and very busy.

I'll take one of these to the US Catfish Convention in October. Mark Sabaj will be one of the speakers! http://catfishcon.com/

I'm deciding whether or not to ship this fish to the convention.
Another of my 'not showy' catfishes ;)
Any more on ID confirmation?
