“Amazon Reophilic Fish Fauna: Threatened and Unknown Natural Heritage”

Post by Jools »

Posted by Leandro Sousa a little earlier today.

During a scientific expedition on the Tocantins River, some very interesting fish species were recorded in the dives and are included in this video. They are mainly fish that live in current areas (reophilic) and associated with the rocky substrate. The rapids are unique and each river has a specialized fish community to live there (and almost always with endemic species, that is, that only occur in that place). Knowing the biodiversity of places like this is the first step to propose appropriate ways of conservation. The rapids environments are among the most impacted of the aquatic ecosystems and with each change we make (by dams or waterways), many species cease to exist in the place.
