SPLIT: Spellchecker

Post by Shane »

Any chance for a spell checker feature in the forum? I think it would help both our younger and non native English speaking members. No offense towards anyone, but I am not even sure what some posters are trying to say. It would also help me to spell quarantine without having to look it up every time!

Thanks

There actually is one available. I'll see how hard it is to implement.

I installed it, but think I will remove it. It seems like it runs a lot of SQL queries. Once we get the whole SQL issue sorted out, I may reinstall it.

I feel the need for a better word processing environment too. It's not just a spell checker, though that would certainly be nice. Especially on a Mac, many basic features we take for granted (eg, double-clicking to select a word) don't work. I get around this in longer messages by writing in my email client, then pasting the result into the forum text box.

Actually, I'm all for a spell checker of some sort. I find it extremely irritating to keep going back to edit spelling errors for four or five times (as the perfectionist in me would demand).
There. Typed it without errors. Hope I don't have to come back and correct THIS post.

Simple solution: use Safari or Omniweb. Because they're pure Cocoa, they have the system spell checker built in. Only problem is I can't stand either of them at this point.

It is amazing to see how the web has grown since 2002 - no spellchecker add-on needed now, all browsers just do it!

That's right. The only problem is, I think I posted too much on English forums, as mine thinks all I write is in English

Which is quite nasty on other, Dutch forums. Quite often the words are messed up after writing them, as the browser thinks it knows better

You would have thought the browser would know the difference. But this is a good example of fixing one issue just brings another into focus!
