Second clue makes me thing it's , but I'm probably wrong... If I'm right, I'd better set an easy one, as I have little (if I even bring a laptop) contact with the 'net for the weekend.

Good guess but, F9 not F9 so not a hexadecimal number. Your day job must be in software ? :-)
Carp37 wrote:Ancistrus ranunculus medusa pl*co?

F9 is the 9th Fibonacci number = 34.
Medusa was a goddess who petrified people (turned them to stone).
= L034 = Medusa Pleco

Your turn Carp37 :-)

A new puzzle, a new rule or new timing?
If you'd like to offer up a new fish, that's okay with me and we'll slip carp37 in when he shows up.

I was refering to a new puzzle, but I may have been too hasty. Anyway, let Carp do it. I find my own puzzles quite boring for I already know the answer

Aha.
The floor is still open for carp37 when he gets a chance but here's something that no one seems to agree on...

ps. Birger, you're very smooth to finally get one in there when it's kind a 'filler game'. Wanna suggest a quickie until Carp37 gets back?

Oh ya...good save, we are both right, I would think yours would be tougher to collect and care for.

Okay this may keep you busy...getting back to Scoloplax... what family was Scoloplax dicra, which is the type species, first placed into.

When first recorded yes... Bunocephalus sp.-Lundberg and Baskin(1969) and then Scoloplax dicra when described in 1976 was provisionally placed in Loricariidae before Scoloplacidae

Okay where is Carp37?

 whoops sorry- been away this weekend (and I didn't think for a moment I'd be right!). Does anyone want to fill in with one this time, and I'll try to think of something if I ever get another one right (not too good at thinking of cryptic clues)?

Sorry guys 'n gals...

OK I'll try and do one, but don't expect anything cryptic...

I'm a largish loricariid from Brazil, but with no keepers listed on Planet catfish
I have an LDA number, despite being described over 150 years ago
My type locality is unknown

For the 9th time, get off His back - if you can't get this "new fish" it's all greek to me!

(9th time = 9th hour = ix + hora, dorsal = back.. mumble.. jumble?)

Maybe... on the G. dorsalis page..." in reference to the distinct coloration of the nuchal plate." Nuchal =NEWchal?
OK, I'm reaching but the rest of your reasoning works for me.
I certainly looked and couldn't find a darn thing with 'ennea' in it.

What about ?
Less than 10 dorsal fin rays = 9, eques = horseman or rider and 'New fish', it would be for us but was described in 1876.
