Labeo cyclorynchus - Adult Size???

Post by Shovelnose »

These beauties have been offered to me at 5"-7" TL as part of a Congo shipment. I would like to know if anyone on the forum has kept these and grown them out as I am getting conflicting reports on their adult size presently. Seriouslyfish.com has them pegged at 6" SL, Fishbase at 16 cms TL (most definitely an error) and a friend sent me a photo of a 12 inch specimen from MFK.

Any help would be appreciated.

Devious: Oh, yeah, well, you see, it's just that we're not, as yet, totally satisfied with the grounds of your claim.
Vicar: But it says something about filling my mouth in with cement.
Devious: Oh well, that's just insurance jargon, you know.

Hey Balaji! This may or may not help you at all but FWIW...

I got a pair of calico sharks 6 years ago, supposedly cyclorhynchos, which appear to have rather been Labeo congicus aka purple Labeo. One of the nastiest fish I've ever had a pleasure to keep. Truly. They prove it regularly, sometimes even everyday in one way or another viewtopic.php?f=9&t=41670&hilit=labeo

Hey Viktor,

Thanks for the info! Yeah, Labeo can be a handful in the aquaria but they are also (fortunately?) gorgeous fish. I am not too concerned as the tank I intend to keep them in has other labeonins, large cyprinids and some Mystus. These have settled down but there is the occasional bickering, nothing out of the ordinary.
