Has anyone ever tried harvesting pollen for use as fry food?

Post by bekateen »

Title speaks for itself.

I've been talking to my university botanist about pollens as fish food. High in protein. The botanist suggested that even conifer pollen, which can be collected in large quantities at the right time of year, might be safe because the pollen shouldn't contain the toxic chemicals found in conifer resins. BUT, and it's a big but, he qualified his comment with three observation that not many animals eat pollen, so he's not secure in the idea. He recommended trying it first on expendable fish.

Anybody here tried using pollen for food?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I did read about it in old, better put, ancient, books written before 1950.

Whether this has never been rewritten because of bad experiences, or 'cause the work to get it - I couldn't say.
