Stone Pleco Caves

Post by joefish72b »

Say good-bye to those ugly PVC pipes, no more boxy slate caves, now you can keep your tank looking natural with these fieldstone pleco caves. These caves are all natural stone, about 2-3" H x 4-5"W x 5-8"L.
Image

Inside cave measurements can be done to your requirements so they are sized to your breed of pleco.
Image
Picture is for example only, each stone is unique and colors vary from stone to stone. Caves are $10 each and ship anywhere in the U.S. for $15 (for upto 6 caves depending on size). Larger stones and custom orders welcome, just email for details. All payments are paypal only.

I sell on several sites so please be sure, I know you came from, or you mention PlanetCatfish. If you are a member here, please buy here, so I can be sure to send in a token of gratitude. Also thanks to everyone who has ordered from this site I'm sending out my next donation on 01-07-2013

Thanks for looking.

You know what they say, great minds and all that. I'm far from a stone mason but I can handle a grinder so I figure if I can help a few people and kick back a few dollars to the site, why not.

Absolutely. I have no problem having my ideas reused - even if they are re-invented...

Just out of curiosity, what size grinder do you use for making these - 9" I guess?

To cut off the bottom I use a 10" blade on my radial arm saw. Then to cut the cave a 7" blade on my grinder which I found out can only cut 2.25" deep due to the head of the grinder contacting the stone. If there is any fine detail work I have a set of spindle grinders for my rotary tool.

What size are they? Any chance we could have something in the picture to show it's scale?

That big cave pictured above is mine, and it is very, very nice. Didn't make the mailman very happy to deliver it, though !! I am a little nervous to put it in the tank since it is pretty heavy. When I get up the nerve, it will be going in my 40b for an L240 home. Very nice job, Joe.

Mats,
The tiles are 20" square or 50cm? The smaller stones ae about 6" or 15cm. I think the biger ones were 8"

Vanillarum,
Thanks, I'm glad you like it, That's the biggest I've done so far.

I guess not since I just saw this. I don't get to the site but maybe once a week now. For some reason topic notifications don't come through on my Comcast account, PM notifications make it through every time though.

UPDATE 12/1/2011
Thanks to everyone who has ordered caves the past month. It seems there will be a lot of christmas caves given to lucky plecos this year. As of right now I'm back ordered through the end of the year so any new requests won't be produced until January. I'm still taking orders but you will be on the waiting list.

Also I just made my latest donation to the site and I want to thank the people at planetcatfish for this wonderful site.

I don't remember for sure, but I have done a lot for that size pleco which would be a 1.5"W x 7/8"H x 4" deep. I just did an order for a fish club and I'm sure some of them were going to be used for Zebra Plecos.
