I'm not quite sure where Tain is - maps.google.co.uk shows a place North of Inverness, but I don't think Neil lives there.

He's the owner of Pier Aquatics in Wigan, near Manchester, England, so that's presumably where the fish would be.

I'm editing the subject to show (Wigan, UK)...

Sojapat is in northern England & you are in the States so shipping will be expensive.

If you can get 'em at $8 a piece they'll be lucipinnis

Well he told me that one of the reasons he thinks they are petricola is because he has some petricola's that are over 4 inches long in his breeding group.

A pic of his adults would clarify the issue. Is the size TL or SL?

I have seen many Petricola at the 5-6" mark TL & a couple bigger , a big Lucipinns could get to 4" SL.

sorry this is a oldish post. what is the difference between them. i brought 4 wild petricola. these turned out to be 3 female and 1 male. they breed most weeks. the eggs hatch but the fry die before they start eating. i have managed to raise 200ish but they are slow growing. at 3 months old they are still well under an inch. i was going to sell them at £7 each or 10 for £50 i have posted some pictures sorry they arent the best pictures

Pikeman - these look like Lucipinnis - based on the large, somewhat abstract random body spots/blotches. Petricola are a bigger fish with regular small mostly round body spots. This is based on adult fish of at least 2" SL.

Lucipinnis have been known for years as "petricola dwarf" & are still sold as petricola in the trade.

Petricola cost approx 30-70 pounds each for genuine adults. Lucipinnis are considerably cheaper.

This of course is reliant on correct ID at the lfs & the fact that there are probably a few unidentified species finding their way into the trade.

these look very similar to each other. are the ture pectricolas harder to spawn?

i have loads of these. they are well cute has kittens. i put a tabimin tab in.it is very comical to see a huge mass of babies fighting for a spot on the tabs.

does anyone have any idea about them dying before they feed?

Lucipinnis are quite easy to spawn whereas Petricola are more tricky
