Ancistrus sp. L180 photo mis-identified?

Post by bekateen »

Hi Jools,

I'm looking at photo #4 of (http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/ima ... e_id=13011). The photo is tinted, so we can't really make out anything about fin spot color, but the spots on the fins seem to be too large and too line-like; they are more similar to the fin spots of . All the other photos of L180 show much finer spotting on the fins.

Cheers, Eric

I tend to agree. Also, the caudal fin should not have that much colour in it either. I wonder if @MatsP can recall anything about this fish? He knows his stuff when it comes to so worth checking in.

Cheers,

Jools

I can't say for absolute sure that it is exactly L180, but it's definitely not a Rio Ucayali or something like that. The fish in the photo is not the typical Ancistrus body, it's flatter than the typical one - similar to A. macrophtalmus and A. ranunculus (not quite as wide and flat as A. ranunculus, but definitely the "cartoon hit by a frying pan" look).

Sorry or the delay in replying...
