Nano Catfish List
I'll be the first to admit my obsession with nano species. I've noticed the lack of "different" suggestions for nano cats, so I made this list of 2" and under cats for those that want something outside the box!

That should allow everyone to view it! Feedback is appreciated!

Re: Nano Catfish List
Scoloplax is missing too
Its a useful reference list but it could be enhanced if it gave an indication of availability of species & ease of keeping them - for example D sapito has not been seen in imports as far as im aware.

Re: Nano Catfish List
You know you can get that list by searching this site for species under 51mm? Just click on the search button in the page linked below...

Re: Nano Catfish List
The list is a work in progress. All species except the added ones are under 2" or 51/50mm. Jools, I know that you can, but it shows 100 species max, and there are more than that. I'll look into the Microglanis and Scoloplax- I know a few species were missed. Availability would be difficult because there are so many countries to consider, and ease of care will be added with time. Thanks for the advice!

Could you guys help me create minimum tank sizes? If you can, please post responses with species and successful tank size.

Hi Maddie,Maddie wrote:Jools, I know that you can, but it shows 100 species max, and there are more than that.
Yes, the list is very long. I would imagine, though, that a lot of these species rarely make it into the hobby, where an average person might be able to buy them at their local fish store (LFS). Given that, you could do use the Species search tool as Jools proposed, set the maximum size to 51 mm (or whatever your upper size limit would be), and then in the very bottom field where it asks you how you want the results sorted, you can select Order by "keepers" instead of order by "species." This way, the search would prioritize the results, pushing fish that are likely to be found in LFS into the top 100 places. For example, today I tried a species search, with maximum size = 51 mm and set the number of species to 100. Of these results, the bottom 20 are kept by only 2 or 3 members (based on the current registered keepers data). If only 2 or 3 people on this site have these fish, then these are probably pretty rare in the fish hobby.
I realize that this is not exactly what you are trying to do; but from your response to Jools, I interpreted it to mean that there is a super long list of small sized fish that people might want to keep in nano tanks, but the limit of 100 in the search meant that many good species choices weren't appearing because they weren't (alphabetically) in the top 100. Searching and ordering by "keepers" would help address this somewhat.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Nano Catfish List
Thanks, Eric! I did do that, and got good results. However, I like to include the lesser-kept species for those like me who prefer more unusual specimens.

Re: Nano Catfish List
Hi Maddie,
Very well. It's too bad that you can't reverse the ordering /sorting from descending to ascending. If that were possible, you would get the 100 least popular catfish under 51mm, instead of the 100 most popular! (and get you to 200 total spp)
Cheers, Eric

Nano Catfish List
You can search for fish below 30mm, then fish 30 to 40mm, then 40 to 50mm, etc. Then merge the lists. If you get 100 listed, narrow the range

Those are really good ideas! Thanks for the suggestions. On a different topic, which species have you successfully kept in a 10 gallon?
