A Super Red Question

Post by Bwhiskered »

I have been breeding Super Red Ancistrus for several years now. I have expected a Long Fin version of this fish would have shown up by now. Does anyone know if they are in existance? I have thought that perhaps they do exist but are not yet being exported.
Good fish are spawned and raised in Burlington.

Just moved this topic into the pleco forum where it's probably better off than in the "speak easy".

I haven't seen any on lists yet, no. I know someone working on refining a strain back from an outcross to another long fin, but to my knowledge, it's a few generations out still.

Likewise, been working on developing it here, and do have fry. However, they're not the quality I'm looking for in the line and will be outcrossing one more generation next fall to improve color a bit before any commercial release.

Impossible only means that somebody hasn't done it correctly yet.

I am also working on long fin super reds and am at what I would call F2 of my crosses. A few are turning out a solid red where some are more like a high red calico. I think it will probably take at least 2 more generations to develop a pure strain.

Truly a beautiful pleco. In a year from now I could have some just as nice.
