Pseudolithoxus sp."Atabapo diamond"

Hi

I've just ordered two of these online from Rare Aquatics, and looking in the clog, there is no reference to this species and nothing online (apart from multiple references to the stock I'm purchasing). I've ordered the last two as well.

Does anyone know what they could be? A new species of Pseudolithoxus I assume? I'll try and provide some photos when they arrive, and hopefully they can be identified, but in the meantime, thought I'd get the ball rolling. There is a photo on the website, I won't share it here as it's not mine to do so.

It's a by-catch typically. There is a picture of it somewhere on the forum but I think the best idea is to get some pics of what arrives.

Thanks, a good find. It does look from the photo on supplier's site to be the same fish, though smaller than the specimen on the PF link.

Keep in mind that their water quality needs will be the same as for wild Altums and Discus. Low pH, very warm, very low bacteria count.

Hi Shane. I'm keeping non-wild discus but running ph about 6.5 with 26.5c temp. There's a 3000lph return pump and a Koralia 4 in the tank for flow. They've not long arrived so have taken a few photos of them in the bucket, but will also get my photo tank out later as well. I may have a pair...largest one is 110mm SL.

Yup, that's P. anthrax, the bycatch is

Pseudolithoxus nicoi

.

@Jools, I've just checked and both mine have the white trailing edge of the caudal fin of P. nicoi, which does not seem to be present in P. anthrax. Is the white edge a confirmed indicator of P. nicoi?

Yes, or at least it means its not P. anthrax. It's really hard to see from the bucket pic.

Yes, I know they aren't great , but will try and get some more photos as they settle in to help confirm.

I'll add them as nicoi until such a time as there is another species more appropriate.

Indeed, meantime, http://www.auburn.edu/academic/science_ ... thoxus.pdf provides a simple key to the species and it suggests to me it might also be worth counting the anal fin rays.

Thanks again. For reference, on Tapatalk, I only see up to and including the link and your name. The remaining text is missing.
I'll try and have a count, though the white edge is listed as an indicator which is a good start.
